Just heard Keaton having a pee so I found the clump of pee, broke it open and rubbed a test trip in it. Is that effective? The colors on the strip did change (no ketones though).

As long as the pee and litter was fresh it should be okay; not the optimum way to test, though, don't know how much contamination from the litter might affect results.

Litter balls can give you an inaccurate/false reading.

Also, the timing of reading the strip is important (usually 15 seconds, but do check the instructions). The colour darkens with time.

Thanks. Husband thinks if the ones that are supposed to change (i.e. specific gravity) changed, and it seemed wet then it most likely worked. Kitties share a litter box so was pretty excited to have any chance at all.

I planted mine face down right in the litter today. Gretchen has been running high and I’ve tried every trick in the book to get her pee. She out-tricks the tricks. Every time.
I use clump and seal...none stuck to strip at all.
