Hi. This is my introduction. I hope I'm finally posting it in the right place. :) Tango is my first and only cat. He is 12 years old and I have had him since he was a 5 month old kitten. Last March, I noticed that he was having what looked like some minor skin allergies, and was scratching his ears and face. I unfortunately made a bad choice in taking him to a vet that said that a steroid is the only treatment for allergies. That unfortunately triggered diabetes. He was diagnosed July 1, 2019 and after several months of trying to regulate and control this with food alone, I am just getting him started on Lantus, .5 units, twice a day. I have been feeding him small meals though out the day, but I'm going to get him started on 3 meals and two snacks a day as I think that might work better. I mostly feed Fancy Feast, Pro Plan True Nature, and Tuna. and I give him Young again kibble for treats but I am open to any suggestions at what might work to lowers his numbers and keep him healthy. He's usually in the low to mid 300's. I have the spreadsheet and will be finally posting it today. I am so fortunate to have found such a supportive and helpful group and I am so grateful to be a part of it.
 
Hello and welcome to FDMB. I see you've been a member for a while and have posted on Lantus already. Get your spreadsheet up and running and then you can continue to post in Lantus to get the assistance you need.

In the meantime, it would also be helpful if you would read through the stickies at the top of Lantus forum to gain a better understanding of how Lantus works and the dosing methods used here. Once in the Lantus forum, folks will want to know which dosing method you prefer so they can offer advice accordingly.

You are in the right place for all the help and support you want or need. We can help you get Tango on the road to better health.

If you need help getting the link into your signature, post over on Health forum (I think you'll get a faster response there than in technical) and someone will be able to walk you through it.

Sorry since you mentioned Introduction, I was thinking this was in the Welcome forum. My bad.

I should have said post a new thread in this forum with a title like "Need help putting SS link into signature". :)

No problem. Just having some difficulty understanding how to navigate within this forum. lol
 
It looks like your spreadsheet (SS) is up and running!!

One quick point, it takes Lantus 5 - 7 days for the depot to form and stabilize. That yellow pre-shot number is letting you know that the depot is in good shape! Also, don't be surprised if numbers bounce high if Tango isn't used to seeing numbers in the 200s.

I'd also encourage you to always get a "before bed" test. You want to feel confident that Tango is in safe numbers before you go to sleep.

Thanks. It has actually been longer than 7 days though. It's been about 2 weeks. I just don't have the initial numbers because I just started using the spreadsheet. There was one pre-shot BG that was 211, and another one last week that was 182.
 
When I received those two lower numbers, I mistakenly didn't shoot because I was afraid. Now I know that anything over 150 before food, it's safe to shoot.
 
Not a problem. When you post over in Lantus, please include that info. You might also want to add the date of diagnosis and when you started Lantus in your signature. Otherwise, I won't be the only person to make that mistake!

Actually, his pre-shot of 182 is in the spreadsheet. The only one that isn't, is the 211 pre-shot from a little over a week ago.

This was just my introduction, which is why it's not in the Lantus Forum. I was told to post it here.
 
We're complex. I just posted instructions for how to link a post in your spreadsheet thread. When you post in Lantus, link this thread so you don't have to repeat yourself!!
