I have been pricking ear from the inside and laying the ear on the warm bottle. Do you think it would be better to do it from the outside? He is fighting us more and more.

Either way is fine, Rose, Either ear is fine. You are sure giving lots of treats with every poke, right? Are you getting blood each time? What size lancet? If his ears are bleeding well and you are using the larger lancets, you might go to a gauge like 29 or 30.

i use a 25Gx5/8" lancet with eddie. not really sure what that means, i guess it's a 25 guage? i personally always prick on the outside of the ear.
Do you put a little vaseline on the area before pricking? I find doing that really helps to apply a more precise puncture and helps to keep the blood pooled in one spot and not absorbed into the fur.
with eddie i sometimes will do the prick and have to wait about 10 seconds for the drop of blood to pool up. other times i seem to hit the mini-capillary dead-on and i get way too much blood.

Today I took blood fron the ouside of the ear and it worked great. He did not complain either. I having been using FirstTouch lancets but on the box it does say what size they are. I having been using Vaseline and that seems to help.
