Hi there. I was given several boxes of syringes by my vet after Pinkie was switched from ProZinc to Lantus. I am struggling to figure out the markings and wonder if I am misdoing him because of this. Can anyone recommend a source for me for the U-100 syringes that have full unit markings on them? The halves are totally throwing me off as I don't have the best eyesight. I have one left of one kind that has easy to read full unit markings and is a 30 unit syringe in increments of 5 but have no idea about the other specs or the brand.
THANK YOU!

Most of us use syringes with the half unit markings because dose changes are made in 0.25u increments. It's easier to be consistent with the syringes that are in half units.

I understand that and I have a box of half unit syringes but like I said, I am having trouble seeing the markings

All brands of syringes come in full unit markings. If Walmart is convenient, they sell Relion syringes. I typically ordered syringes online through ADW. Online retailers will require a prescription from your vet. The full unit syringes are more easily found than half unit ones.

There are a couple of methods to dealing with trying to eyeball the markings on a syringe. If there's a craft store near you, they often carry a type of magnifying headset/goggles that some people use to see the syringe markings more clearly. I would sometimes use readers. The other options is to buy a set of digital calipers. These allow you to set the calipers for the size of the dose and then compare the insulin in the syringe to the amount on the caliper. Harbor Freight sells 4" digital calipers as does Amazon. There are instructions on the board if you decide to try the calipers.
