Where are you guys buying your syringes from and what's a good price? I have to use the U 40 syringes (although I am thinking about moving to the U 100 syringes and using the converter chart so I can give smaller doses if needed).

The vet charged me $32.08 for 100 of the U 40 and $5.50 for biohazard waste (said I am supposed to bring the used syringes back to them for disposal). Any thoughts or suggestions?

The 40's I got from my vet the 100's I got from walgreens. I dont remember the price though, but I know for sure walgreens was cheaper than my vets.

Also as to the disposal you shouldnt need a bin, check your local regulations, but I used the clip. VERY convenient and small

they sell them pretty much anywhere that sells diabetic supplies. Theyre actually on clearance at my walmart for $2.50
 
Awesome! Thank you everyone! I just gave Marbles her first shot and I almost had a fur shot as I went through to the other side. I got it with the second stick (same insulin as I hadn't pushed it into her yet because I felt the needle poke my finger). She took the shot really well because I've been giving her treats after her blood test each day so she sat there pretty still - it was actually easier than the blood testing. I am a little worried about her not eating enough - she ate some before I gave her the shot but not a lot, so I gave her two treats hoping that would help. I'm a little nervous.

Now, time to research how to give a shot a little better so I don't mess it up next time.
 
She needs to eat with the insulin on board. Make sure she eats.

Monitor her very closely and check her BG regularly tonight. I don't mean to be alarmist but to be on the safe side make sure you have your hypo kit at the ready.
 
She ate about 1/2 a can of wet food shortly after I gave her the shot. I plan to check her at +2 and +4 (maybe another time if I'm still awake or if her numbers seem to be going low). I am so scared of hypo. I keep watching her and wanting to check her levels now because I am pretty nervous. My cat doesn't like to eat on command so making her eat before the shot is going to be interesting. How much should I get her to eat before the shot? I'm going to be lucky if she eats 1/2 a can at one time - she is a grazer.

I'm going to be a nervous wreck while at work for 8 hours tomorrow.

Great news that Marbles has eaten for you! Saoirse's always been a grazer, too. Ideally, you should withhold food from her for 2 hours before the pre-injection BG test. That way, you know her level isn't being affected by food. It should also make it more likely that Marbles will be ready to eat prior to her insulin dose.

I feel for you over having to be away from your little one tomorrow. If you're not sure about anything, keep posting here and ask for help. All I can suggest is that you leave enough food out for her to graze away during the day. If you do need to ask about giving insulin in the morning, it would help if you could post the BG numbers and times so that anyone replying to you will have an idea of how Marbles is responding to the the insulin.

Fingers and paws crossed here that all will be fine.
 
I like the Terumo Thinpro U100 syringes because of the 3/8 needle. I get far less fur shots because this needle is a little longer. They cost $13 at ADW.
