I have always used ReliOn Insulin U-100 Syringes 3/10 mL, 30 gauge, 8mm length with 1/2 unit markings.
I would like to try a new syringe, any suggestions? I dont really care if it has 1/2 unit markings - I can eyeball it. I don't mind a higer gauge, but do not want a lower one.

I keep getting Bubbles & I never got Bubbles until now - I try tapping (fliking) the side of the syringe & my bubbles stay also, I am wondering if a different needle won't hurt Baby... she has started to kind of yelp.

Hi NIcole
I used those syringes as well but I also like the ones from Hocks.
I can't rembember the excat name off hand but when I get home later I can check. I still have a few left and I really liked them.
Plus if you order from Hocks, using the link on the board, FDMB gets a percent.

From Hocks we use the GNP Brand, U-100, 31 Guage, 3/10 cc, 5/16 inch needle with 1/2U markings. Item number A982316. One box did give me trouble with bubbles, but for the few years I've been ordering these, only the one box was not so great. Misty(GA) used to hate needles, she acted like a cat on a hot tin roof at shot time, but these she never noticed.

I also used the GNP brand from Hocks.com for Smokey, bless his sweet little soul.

Here is a technique that might work for you for air bubbles:

Draw your insulin. If air bubbles, then draw in enough to compensate for the
amount of air you think you have. You can draw in a tiny bit of extra insulin also.

(Some insulins you should never shoot back into the vial....what is your insulin?)

If you have air bubbles, remove the syringe from the vial, and draw a little more air into the syringe.

Hold the syringe horizontal.

Now tap the barrel of the syringe in the area of the air bubble(s). Tap all around the barrel.

It needs good smart tap, and I found that using something like a ball-point pen, or
the handle of a table knife did the job. Your finger does not give a sharp enough tap.

While continuing to tap, gradually change the position of the syringe so the needle is pointing
up toward the ceiling. The idea is to get all the air to gather into one large bubble just below
the needle.

Now push out the air and push the plunger to your dose.

I've used the BD Ultrafine 3/10 cc with half unit markings and 31 gauge 5/16 inch. It works well for Lantus but is expensive, about $30 for a box of 100. These syringes do not work well with Levemir - way too many air bubbles that won't go away :-Q

What I've always done is push the plunger all the way to the zero line. Insert the needle into the pen/bottle/cartridge. Slowly draw up a little more insulin than you need. I do about a half unit more. Remove the needle from the pen/bottle/cartidge. Hold the syringe with the needle pointing up. Slowly push the plunger upwards to expell the extra insulin and any air bubbles. Tap gently to float bubbles towards the needle.

Thanks for the replies everyone.. I will consider getting some off of the link, Randi.. thank you.
I wanted some for her PM shot.. so went down & got some BD U100 31 gauge syringes from CVS Pharmacy.. those were A LOT better than the ones I was using.. also, I used the pen trick.... AMAZING.. now bubble free  O ya... Baby is on Lantus for those that asked & we have a pen.

What seems to minimize the bubble for me, using the Relion syringe and a Lantus vial:

Push plunger all the way down and hold it down while inserting into the vial
DO NOT RELEASE until the needle tip is covered by the insulin!!!
Tilt vial as needed to cover needle tip, then draw up dose.

Hey, Nicole!! I hope all is well! Several folks over in LL raved over the Monojects. I've got an order coming from ADW this week and would be happy to give you some to try out!

Christie

Hi, Christie.. I might take you up on that.. I will let you know for sure though.. I really like the ones I got from CVS yesterday  thank you everyone for the tips/advice too!
