I went to the vet today to have Oreos libra put back on and while I was there I bought new syringes. I thought they were the same ones that I got at Walmart that they wrote me a prescription last time but now I noticed they’re different and I hope they’re OK.

They are both u-100 3/10ml. The prior syringes Had a 6 mm needle and please have a 12.7 mm needle. Do I need to get 6mm needles?

I was okay with the longer ones but only because that's what I started with, both cats were big boys and very long haired. Now you've got a needle 1/4 inch longer, just use caution until you're completely comfortable or you could just exchange them.

Ok good to know. I’m still going to see if the vet will take them back because these don’t have half unit markings which I prefer

I started with the longer thicker needles (29g 1/2") and was scared I was hurting him. It was more me and my conscience that was the problem. Mocha couldn't care less. However, he's a long haired mostly black cat and the longer needle made me a little more confident because I could "sorta" see what I was doing. Now I have 31g 5/16" needles which I can barely see at all. I know I get him because he always meows or gives me a dirty look after the shot.
If my husband helps me then usually one of us will be feeding him a treat as the other one pokes. Then he has no idea anything happened.
But the vet should be able to take them back. They can always use them so it's no loss on their part.
You can find the ones with the 1/2 unit markings online probably much cheaper than the vet.

my vet is very reasonable I think they will take them for sure. I just learned totaldiabetessupply.com is around the corner from my house so I know where to go next time

Nice! They're most likely only going to have u100 syringes so be careful if you ever change types of insulin that require u40. Hopefully they have the ones with 1/2 unit markings. But Amazon is also a good last resort too

that they wrote me a prescription
This is one of the oddball things I never knew before my first sugar cat. I could buy 100 syringes with no ID or prescription, no explanation as to why I needed them and they weren't expensive. I asked the pharmacist why on Earth "dirty needles" were still a street drug issue but there's no answer to that.
30+ years ago I was single and worked until 3AM. If I was bored I'd bake cookies or banana bread for our softball team so off I'd go to the corner store with my very long hair to get baking soda. That was a bigger red flag than syringes, something to do with crack cocaine. It's just a cookie. :banghead:

Broward and Miami Dade counties require. Or I can drive 15 mins to Palm Beach and get them. Go figure

Hi Steven,
I have had trouble finding the 6mm as well. I finally found ADWDiabetes. It is online diabetic supply company. I now order directly from them. You do not need a prescription. Even with shipping costs, the needles were about the same price as the pharmacy. They are located in Florida. The shipping is fast and you can track it. It sure has saved me a lot of hassle trying to find the 6mm needles.

I’ll check it out. There is a county ordinance in Broward and Dade the forbid the sale absent an RX a pharmacist told me. I’ll see what my vet does. I’m sure he will take these back although I’m already used to them after a few shots. I prefer the .5 marks They have this below on their site. Not that my vet won’t approve if I needed to go that route
“We may require the order of a physician for this item.”

Yes, I got that message on their website as well but it only applies to certain needles. I was not asked for an rx and had my needles within a week.

I got mine on shoppettest.com. They have all different sizes. It didn't require a prescription but I don't know if you'll have an issue shipping to Broward county.
