Sye's BG this morning was taken after she ate some food -- it was 256 at 7a so we gave .5 units insulin. We also gave her normal 100 cc fluids. She started acting funny when we got home at +4. Took her BG at +4-1/2 at it is 76. We put a finger full of karo syrup inside her gums and then fed her 30 mls food. How long should we wait to retake BG?

30 mins. I wouldn't have given her karo at 76 at +4 but would have fed her. Fluids can drastically drop the BG.

Suggest you retest when it's been 30 mins after you fed. If you post here, I will watch for you. It's ok to take the 911 off now.

Very good.

When are you doing fluids again? I would test her at about +7 next and be sure you test her after you give fluids.

Be sure to give the fluids in one location and the insulin in another, farther away.

Hello and welcome to the board!

Tell us more about yourself and sye.. For example, what food does he get? Is that DM and evo wet or dry?

You are all set up with home testing and a good insulin which is great!

However lantus works best on consistent twice a day dosing since it only last 12 hours in the cats system. Do your syringes have half unit markings? You might want to try 0.25 twice a day. Here's how it looks http://s214.photobucket.com/user/jillsphotos2/media/Lantus Group/025unit-1.jpg.html
