Swollen discolored eye in cat

Hi. I have an 9 year old Female cat with a swollen discolored eye (See picture). It is getting worse both in swollen amount and color. It began about six months ago with slight reddish brown color and slowly became worse. She does not appear to be in any pain, she does not 'head-butt' or rub the eye with her paw. Her apatite and energy seem about the same. My main concern is that I am on Social Security (low fixed income) and have no available credit. Can anyone suggest what might be causing the eye problem and what a treatment might cost? It appears worse then the picture suggest and I am guessing it many need extracted.
One more note, when I found her as a kitten, the vet said she had an upper respiratory infection that is usually not a problem once she gets older.

I agree, you should take your cat to the vet ASAP. Check with your local Humane Society or animal control office, they may can recommend a low cost vet for you.
 
That eye looks like it has a horrible infection with lots of pressure building up behind it. Altho' there are some high-powered antibiotics that MAY knock it down, the eye does likely need to be removed now.

Do you have a regular vet? Sometimes your vet will also help work with you regarding payment options. There are other avenues for assistance, as well; none spring to my mind at this moment, but I'm sure other members will chime in with information, too.

Your kitty definitely NEEDS to go to the vet ASAP.
 
I'm really sorry about what's happened to your kitty's eye. My own little one sadly lost her right eye last week following a haemorrhage. Her eye became swollen, too, necessitating its removal.

Obviously your kitty's eye is very badly swollen. My heart goes out to you over the worry about treatment costs on top of all your worry about your kitty but I think she really, really needs to get to a vet as soon as possible. Sending prayers for you both to get the necessary help.
