Switching to Wet Food Only & Effect on Water Intake

Does switching to an exclusively wet food diet cause cats to drink less water? Not only have I noticed it with LB, but I have noticed it with my three other non diabetic kitties as well as they are eating primarily wet food, too. It makes sense in my brain, but thought I’d ask to be sure. I sometimes add extra water to LB’s leftovers when I offer them to him later.

Wet food is 79% moisture and dry food has 7% moisture. So yes your cats will drink more with dry food and less with wet food.
Still a good idea to add some water to the wet food

Absolutely Zoe get 100% canned food the only time she actually drinks water is in the middle of summer.

Thanks, y’all! I have been concerned that the water bowl levels are not decreasing throughout the day. Glad it’s normal!

completely normal. I give Zoe bottled water and throw out most the bowl daily.
