Switching to low carb before insulin shots?

Hi Everybody,

Honey, my 10 yr old male cat, was diagnosed with diabetes today. We have an appointment to visit his vet in a few days so they can teach me how to give him insulin shots. Now my question... would it be okay to change his diet to low carb right away before we go ahead with giving him the insulin. I don't know what his levels are at the moment... like I said everything is so new and overwhelming. But I was hoping to get him started on a low carb wet food diet right away and see if that would be a drastic change before giving him the insulin.

Please any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Before you start insulin is the BEST time to switch to a low carb canned food!!

As Chris said before you start insulin is the best time to switch to an appropriate low carb diet. It's also a great time to get a glucose meter and learn to home test Honey's blood glucose. It's easy to learn and can save his life. Here's some info to get you started
