Good morning,
I've decided to switch from the Relion syringes to Monoject Ultra Comfort Short Needle 30g 3/10cc 5/16in 100/bx 1/2 unit. I just placed the order and expect to start using them at the end of the week. Although the Relion syringes we've been using are the 30g 3/10cc 5/16in 1/2 unit - I know not all syringes are created equal. So, I'm wondering if I need to reduce Klinger's dose slightly when we make the change or should I not need to adjust?

Thanks!

Oh boy, that might be a question for the Health board. The measurements are universal, so the standard would be true, but I agree that some syringes have bubble issues or marking issues. I think the Monoject are probably pretty good from what's been said on the board.

There would be an issue if you were using a micrometer to measure doses the way I did. That depends on the circumference of the barrel, so you would have to remeasure to determine ratio of 1U:1MM because circumferences of barrels are not the same.

If that threw you for a loop, just ignore it. If you post on Health maybe someone will have used both brands and can ease your mind.

Marcy,

I started out with Relions had way too many bubble problems with them and switched over to the monojects, much better syringes and if there was any difference in them measuring wise, I never noticed it, except less bubble problems and better consistancy in the markings. The only thing I don't like about the monojects is you have to watch the actual needles themselves I got a lot of them that the needle appeared twisted and very rough.

Thank you Vicky and Mel.
I don't have a micrometer, but I understand what your saying Vicky about the barrel.

Mel, thank you for letting me know about the monoject needle issues. I'm surprised that the quality control is so poor.

I switched from Relion to Monoject. I have found them much, much easier to use. The head of the Monoject plunger is flat. The Relion plunger has a curved head. Measuring is a world easier. The Monoject gets fewer bubbles and the ones it does get are much easier to get rid of. The Relion has far better needles. They go in much easier and if you "multi-use" your syringes the Relion stays sharp while the Micoject gets dull immediately. I have never noticed anything that would make me think that the Monoject might not dose consistently from syringe to syringe.

The syringes I'm using now and absolutely love, although they are more expensive, are these http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...t-insulin-syringes_5739.htm?source=SiteSearch

Although the way I look at it is that out of a box of 100 of the monojects I probably trashed a good half of them because of crappy needles. So if I can use all 60 in the box of these then I'm still coming out ahead in the long run, and they are still cheaper than the BDs which is all anyone carries around here. So far these have been the best syringes that I have used...love love love them. They draw up almost bubble free, and even if the do get a bubble they come out easily. The needle is triple beveled so they insert like a hot knife through butter. But the thing I like best about them is the full unit and half unit marks are off set from each other so it is easier to eyeball drawing up quarter units.

I use these from Hocks:
http://www.hocks.com/diabetic-suppl...edle-1-2-unit-markings-gnp-brand-100-box.html

They have a flat stopper, offset half/whole unit markings and I have never had trouble with the needles and they are very smooth. I think out of every box of 100 I might waste 1 because of my error or a defect. I have gotten a batch that were misprinted and there was up to .25u "ABOVE" the zero line, but I check every syringe before I draw so I can compensate for that. I haven't had a bad batch in a while though.

These are short needles, so they take getting used to. They also have these in a 30 gauge. $16.50/box, versus $21.25 for Monojet.

I should have asked here first - before I ordered the monojects. I did do a search on the board and over 6000 hits came up ohmygod_smile
Well, I'll get through this supply and try the ulticare or GNP.

Thanks!
