? Switching Meters - Wait for Control Solution?

I just got my ReliOn meter and want to switch from Alpha Trak 2. The kit did not include control solution so I just called them and they are sending a bottle. It will take 7 - 14 business days.

The instructions say you should use the solution any time you open a new bottle of strips - and that is what I do with the AT2 (they include the control solution when they send the meter).

Should I wait till I get the control solution before I start using the new ReliOn meter?

thanks,
Jeanette

I used my metere anyways, and only used the control solution once.

Isnt it stupid walmart sells the meters and then we have to call for the control? That ticked me off, but i do love this meter.

The only thing i doublecheck when starting a new strip container is that the code matches. Its nice that it automatically does that. On the AT we had to manually change the code.

Ideally one would test with the control solution with each new vial but most human diabetics do not follow this advice given that the test solution is less than convenient to come by. And goodness knows that while it may be a recommended practice, and certainly seems logical, it's not logical to NOT include the solution with the meter if it is deemed to be a crucial practice. While some companies will supply the test solution free of charge others charge for it making it look like it's really just a money grab. I think you can go ahead and use the meter and if you by chance should suddenly get a low reading of concern, use your AT meter to double check.

I think it's stupid too!

I do like that the code adjustment is automatic. Do you check the code every time or just with the first strip of new bottle?

They do provide it for free and give you a toll free number, but it takes a week to 2 weeks to receive it.

That's a good suggestion to double check with the AT.

Thanks!

It says when you call for the control solution (relion), they are available in 3 levels, Low, Normal and High, which do you request?

The booklet just says call for Control Solution and when I did they did not mention any levels.

I just called and ordered some and they didnt ask. But the manual does say "Control solutions are available in 3 levels, low (l1) normal(l2) and high(l3)". I noticed the back of the test strips show a chart for the levels too. Dont really know what it all means, or what the heck they are talking about.
