Hi folks,

I've been contacted by someone who is switching from Lantus to Hypurin PZI, and wants to know if a period of detox is needed (because of Lantus duration/depot).

Would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Eliz

Might start at about a 70% dose of the Hypurion, with testing for safety.
If I recall correctly, the Hypurion may have some overlap, too.

Thanks, BJ.

I think the insulins may have similar durations (or Hypurin possibly longer than Lantus).
I've never read on here about any problems with switching insulins (regarding overlap). But have you ever heard of problems from having 2 different overlapping insulins in the system at the same time...?

As long as they give a reduced dose and are testing, it should be fairly seamless. When I switched Mikey over from Lantus to Levemir, I dropped his dose from a morning shot of 2.25u Lantus to an evening shot of 1.5u Levemir. He ended up needing less Levemir than Lantus and is still around that 1.5u dose to this day. Other cats have worked their way back up to the same dose on the old insulin and still other cats have ended up going into remission. Yet another reason why home-testing is so important. ;-) A different insulin can change the game in unique ways.

I think going with the 70% may accommodate any overlap from the Lantus.
