I got an aviva today in the mail thanks to linda and bear man, and have some questions.
I may be able to figure it out once I can read all the info that came with it, but I figured I would ask here too since I hope to start using it tomorrow.
I currently use an AT, so this is a little different.

3 things I am not sure on :

It doesnt use normal lancets, it has this pen thing and cartridges which I cant figure out. I put it together, but when i press to use it (to test it, not on Josie), the needle doesnt come out. On any length setting.

It doesnt come with control solution. Do human ones not need it? Or do you buy it seperatley?

And lastly, the AT I am used to, you could put the blood on either side of the strips, these kind you put on the end, but do you hold it to the blood at the tip, or on the top surface? The diagram wasnt very clear.

Does it have a lance IN it?

I use Relion - you have to call and they'll send you fresh solution free.....that way the meters can sit on the shelf. Maybe it's in the book.....

Hold it against the edge of the blood and let it 'suck' it up. I find that the more blood I put the end into the slower it will 'suck'. It's the end of the strip that has the capillary, not the back or front side.

Did it come with the multiclix lancet device? If so, that thing is impossible to use. I tossed it and kept using my relion device. You can get blood however you were getting blood for the alphatrak. If you use a device, the cheap simple ones you can find at the drug store are easier to aim.

You can call the company and have them send control solution, but you don't need it. You can use your own blood as a control by testing yourself. The meter comes ready to use.

The blood gets sucked in at the tip of the test strip, not the top.

Yeah, the pen thing comes with cartridges of 10 lancets each, but i cant get it to work. i just dont like it going to waste, since it came with 100 lancets total.

The MulitClix uses a drum that is pre-loaded with lancets. Human diabetics like it because they don't have to handle individual lancets. I never liked the MultiClix. It was too fat to hold. I preferred the SoftClix. Call AccuChek Customer Service and see if you can get a SoftClix lancet device and a few lancets. Do not tell them that you are using the lancet device on a cat. Just say that you are having trouble using the MultiClix on a famly member and would like to try a different lancet device.

Or just go to the pharmacy and buy a different lancet device and lancets to go with it. The brand of lancet device you use doesn't need to match the brand of meter  All the lancet device does is prick the skin so you can get a drop of blood to test.

The lancet on any device comes out really really fast and goes back in just as fast. You will not be able to see it. Most lancet devices makes an audible click noise as you press the button. Try the lancet device on yourself to make sure it works.

Control solutions are sold separately. You don't really need them anyways. If you think the meter isn't working right, you run a test with a control solution.

.

You touch the yellow edge of the test strip to the blood drop. Don't touch the flat top part of the test strip onto the drop of blood.

The meter seems to be working well/ It sucks up the blood really fast, it is neat to watch.
I am going to keep using the small individual lancets instead, easier for me.
I just hate being wasteful.

My aviva nano came with one of those silly things! Wasted about 3 drums of the stupid things before I gave up! (turns out that wee yellow button towards the bottom is how you get it to go, but you can just as easily keep switching to a new lancet without having used any . . which is what I did)

Big box of soft clix and free hand ahoy!

Hope you get it sorted!
