When we have this one dog visit, this seems to happen, even though his owners say he gets regular flea treatments.

Have 2 problems though. If I put Advantage on Sweet Max, it will be about 2 weeks early. AND he has dug in the area where I should administer it. Any ideas will be appreciated. The poor boy looks like he has been in a major battle and lost. I put peroxide on the "wounds". He doesn't like it, but it always seems to clear things up quickly.

2 weeks early is too soon imho.

do you have a flea comb?
or can you give him a bath ?

and maybe some antihist. for the itching ?
has he ever had an anti histamine?

does he have any heart or bp issues? some antihist. are contraindicated w/ those conditions.
you might post asking about antihist. dosing if no heart /bp issue.
been too long since i have used on a cat. there have been some recent threads....dian would know.
or check w/ your vet ??--- do you have one you can work w/ now adays. i know that has been an issue in the past.

you could put a little polysporin on the wound.

sorry sweet max.

Oh no! I am sorry hes all scratchy. A bath might make him feel better but it also might wash off whatever previous flea tx is still left on him.

Oh and about the dog.. well the dog may have had reg flea tx but if the environment/yard the dog is running around in has fleas, the HUMAN could be bringing them in on clothing.

Sending cyber hugs.

Peroxide may be good for a one-time treatment since the bubbling action may help clean the wound. However, the peroxide also kill health cells and is not really recommended for periodic use.. I use Benadryl Gel occasionally on one of mine who has scratching/licking problems. A vet recommended it years ago.

Cat,
I was just checking back on you, and noticed this post. Cody gets so may other drugs that I hate using anything else, including flea medicine. I have had pretty good luck with:

a flea comb, (grocery store)
and a powerful vacuum (which I use obsessively particularly where they sleep,)

and our doggy gets flea meds monthly.
