Joplin is still not regulated and continues to lose weight, despite being fed several times a day. Since the food is so low carb, I would imagine just like people, it's natural to lose weight on a low carb diet, in addition to the Diabetes causing the weight loss due to lack of nutrients being absorbed. But, is there anything I can give him, like a high fat supplement of some sort to help out? I hate seeing him get so skinny :(

Marje gives her kitties coconut oil It's great for hairballs. I'd suggest dropping her a PM to ask about the particulars.

I'd also take a look at Dr. Lisa's food chart. If you pick the low carb foods that are the highest in calories, that will also help. Wellness is higher in calories than some of the other foods.

Another thing that you can do is also closely monitor your kitty's weight by getting a weight check each morning before you feed, and logging the information down. I've been doing this on a daily basis since December 6, 2012. You can use a baby scale, or a pet scale. I found my pet scale at Amazon.com. And yes, I would recommend a higher caloric food if needed, too. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the advice. Boy, do I feel like an idiot. The food I've been feeding him, while only having 4 carbs, is only 93 kcals per can!! He is definitely underweight according to that body composition thing too, thanks for posting that. I am going to get him on the Wellness chicken or turkey. Thank you all!

Or give him a larger quantity of the food you are feeding him. Ounce for ounce, some of those Wellness flavors have even fewer calories. I'd look at the food chart to see the higher calorie ones.

If you were feeding Joplin 2.5 to 3 cans a day of the food, that might help. Think he would eat more?

I've been feeding him 3 cans of the Weruva, and he STILL wants more. I got the Wellness chicken, 223 kcals, 6 carbs. Hopefully it will help put weight on. I gave it to him for dinner, and he gobbled it up. :)
