SUMO's needs dose adjustment

Hello, I need help on adjusting Sumo's Pro Zinc. I have remained patient and have slowly increased his dose by .02, but numbers remain unchanged. Tomorrow will be 3 wks since his diagnosis. I have done 2 curves, and try to get a +6 at night (midnight) since I cannot do it during the day.. I am leaving for work now, so I will check responses for this evenings dose when I return home. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mary

Let's see what the consensus is, Mary, but it looks to me like you have better numbers at the lower doses. I wonder about trying .75 units. If you do reduce, be sure you are checking for ketones on a regular basis and getting enough tests in that you can see quickly whether there is an improvement.

What do others think?

Geez Mary, I just dont know..
I am thinking maybe lisen to Sue, just tonight, reduce and get a +4 or something
like that ...if his numbers dont change then I would up, I dont think I would stay at .75 long
I saw that you raised on the 264...I think if that happnes again and you get a yellow preshot
maybe you should not raise but stay where you are and see what happens
just my thoughts...lets see what everyone else says

I'm not a dosing expert either but when I looked at your SS I was thinking reduce. Hopefully some more folks that are better with the dosing will chime in!

Back when you tried 1.5 for a couple cycles, it looks like he had a big bounce, with suggests it was too much.
BUT... on 1.2, it doesn't look like he's getting much of a drop, which suggests it isn't enough.

So I am conflicted on which way to go. You can try. 6 or. 8 to see if there's any improvement but if you dont see any after a couple cycles, you may reconsider that he might need an increase instead of a reduction.

TONIGHTS NUMBER FOR SUMO

Just checked Sumo's bs and it was 217. It was suggested earlier that I drop his dose. Is that still the case. He needs his shot soon.
Mary

Is Sumo eating now? If not, please hold off for 15 more minutes and test him again. You need to make sure his number is rising rather than falling before giving him insulin.
He'll probably need a decreased dose, but not sure how far to decrease yet.
Carl

Interesting. Wonder why it took him so long to settle into this dose. It may be that you got low naidrs before and he bounced. Agree with waiting and testing again to be sure he is headed up. If so, I think I would go back to one unit and see how he does.

I think let him finish eating, and then go with a .8 if you can eyeball it. Just a bit less than 1 unit. For whatever reason, the 1.2 did a good job today. You don't want to lose that momentum, but .8 would probably be safer than a whole unit.
Are you going to be up for a while? It would help, if possible, for you to get a reading in 2 hours to see what the dose is doing for him.
Anybody else?
Carl

I think one unit would be okay, if you will be around to test a few times tonight. If you can't be around or are worried, that .75 sounds nice or .6 or .8 - whatever is easier to measure.

Wish we knew how he went from those reds and pinks to a nice pmps tonight. Any nadir numbers you can get will help us solve the "mystery".

Going to give his shot now. I am thinking maybe what Carl said is perhaps the way to go here. For some reason, I think if I give 1 unit, I will see his numbers go up. Just going on past experience. I will be up for awhile and will be able to get some readings before bed. Thanks everyone, I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your advice
Mary (Sumo too!)

Mary,
I will be up for a while too, so I'll check for new numbers as you post them.

Carl

I am sorry to those who might have been following this post last evening. We lost power at our house for several hours last night, and I was unable to post bg readings on Sumo. He was fighting me on his +2 and ended up under the bed, but I did get a +4 that was 303. It has not been posted on spreadsheet yet. This AM was up again to 398, but I gave him the .8 of Pro Zinc and will check numbers again tonight. As recommended, I will stay on the .8 for a few rounds and then see where he is at.
Thank You, Mary

I'm going to let someone else help you with the dose but I wanted to make sure you are testing for ketones. Also, it's a good idea to start a new thread everyday just to keep them from getting so long.

Hi Mary,
I was wondering how Sumo was doing so I checked his SS
Saw that you did a curve today!!
NICE!!
numbers were looking good today on the .8.....
