? Suggestions for timed cat feeders?

You'll see in the reviews online that some people complain that the PetSafe 5 doesn't open all the way. We found that it opened 100% of the time if we had the food tray fully seated into the base unit. There is a button you can press to rotate the tray 1 slot forward. We always did that to make sure it was settled into the base unit all the way.

You can also add one ice cube per compartment to help the food stay fresh. I never used blue ice, but did add an ice cube.

I use the Pet 5 too and its had occasional issues turning, but if you make sure you put the tray in correctly each time, its fine.

One thing I started to do (because finding an ice pack to fit it proved hard) was feeezing some of my cats food for the later meals (mainly for the +8 one). I take a 12.5oz can of wet, mix a little bit of water in, and fill up a mini-cupcake container. They stay cold a while, and the extra water is nice too. :)

Cass, I am going to have to try that with raw food and experiment and see how long it takes the raw to thaw and long it stays cold.

I fill mine with the last slot to rotate at the 6 o'clock position when I am preparing the cycle foods. Then right after I do PS I rotate it once and the PS food will rotate to the opening. That insures that it is seated correctly.

Dr. Lisa days she leaves her raw out for a while. (I think its in the anti-dry post ahe made in the Health forum.)
I just revisited that thread and I believe Dr. Lisa was referring to canned food that she has left out all day not raw. I have 1 oz portions in the freezer now ( he gets 1 oz of raw every 4 hours) and I am going to bring them out and put into the feeder with an ice cube and an ice pack in the indentation and check it periodically to see how long it stays cold.

I never had success with the PetSafe 5 (finally gave it away). I really like the CatMate C-20, two compartment feeder with mechanical timers (not digital). It comes with it's own blue-ice block that fits under the feeder compartments. I put small ceremic bowls into the compartments. Rusty eats all of his meals from it. When I don't have to set timers, I simply put his bowls into the compartments and leave it open. It's nice to have a choice of foods.

I will say this, PetSafe5 company has an awesome Customer Service department.
They sure do! We've bought 2 of their self-cleaning cat boxes and one of them was spilling litter over the side as it rotated. I called and the clerk got her cat box out and trouble-shooted (is that a word, lol?) on the phone with me until we figured out what was wrong and had it fixed. It's a fabulous company.
