sugars lower than usual - do I give insulin?

Hello,

My 14 year old cat Arthur has been diabetic for 7 years and has been on 2.5 units of Caninsulin twice a day for many years. Today his sugars are lower than usual. He is usually somewhere between 14 and 18 in the morning before having insulin. Today he was 7.1. I gave him some food and now he is 7.9.

He was really lethargic yesterday but seems fine this morning. But now I am afraid that if I give him his usual dose of insulin, he will go hypoglycemic. To make matters worst, I am supposed to go on vacation tomorrow and he will be with cat sitters. So not much time to sort something out :(

I didn't give insulin at the usual time this morning (8 a.m.). Fed Arthur again and checked again at 9:30 a.m. sugars now at 11.8. Gave a slightly lower dose of insulin a few minutes ago. Hopefully things will get back to normal today.

Sound like your kitties insulin needs *may* be changing. I am NO WAY an expert but this will bump up your thread for more eyes...
good luck,

Cheryl,
Are you testing between doses? And for us Americans...do you know how to translate those numbers so it will be easier for us to read them?
It would be nice to see a days set of numbers, such as this

amps Number Dose
+2
+4
+6
+8
pmps Number and Dose

This would really help you and us to see the whole story.

Just reread and see you are leaving for vacation. If you can get several tests in today....and perhaps lower dose to 1unit during vacation.
Will sitter be testing?
Has kitty ever been ketone prone?
