Suddenly OTJ? Should I be concerned?

Hello again FDMB!

Me and my pal Melty have recently had a sudden change in BG levels.

He was trending at between 20 and 15 pre-shot for the longest time...and all of a sudden has seemingly OTJ worthy numbers.

He seems great! Aside from a little bit of weepy eyes.

Has anyone else experienced such a sudden drop? Any advice?

Thanks in advance. <3

Nikki and Melty.

Were you just not transcribing them between August and December? Were there any mid-cycle tests?
He might actually have been OK to get off sooner if there weren't any tests.

I did test him twice a day but am ashamed to say that I didn't keep the numbers up to date in the chart... :/

Before his numbers being so good, he was swinging pretty hard. Would consistently be high pre-shot, and right the money between +4 and +6. There just didn't seem yo be enough staying power in the Caninsulin.

I planned to start him on Lantus (just bought a vial) but his numbers started getting lower and lower so I started lowering the dose, and now he seemed to have evened out completely.

Thanks for the response :)

It could very well be that his pancreas has sputtered to life again, which would be awesome! :D You'll want to keep checking him twice a day for a while tho, just to be sure. ;)

They can go OTJ quickly and can fall out of remission just as quickly. Squeaker was in remission then had a relapse 8 months later. The relapse was a short lived event. It went something like this: week 1- 1 unit; week 2-2 units; week 3-3 units; week 4- 2 units; week 5- 1 unit; week 6-OTJ again. And he has been in remission this time for nearly 2 years. Just continue to test periodically to catch any relapse earlier.

I was just concerned that it was so sudden. Wanted to see if anyone had had any experience with such a seemingly sudden remission, or if there was some other health problem that could be causing it. He seems GREAT though. :)

Take him in to the vet for a checkup would be my advice.

Cats can and do improve and go OTJ quickly. My cat went from decent numbers to remission in just a couple weeks after two months of crummy numbers. From 4u twice a day to smaller and smaller doses, to "zero" and stayed that way for two and a half years.

There are "things" that can cause a rapid improvement of numbers that aren't good. Like some types of cancer. To put your mind at ease, just have your vet run some bloodwork.

My baby went OTJ pretty fast once he was switched to low carb can food, like within a month. he was up to 5 units BID and slowly down to 1 unit every other day to now 0 units. he needs his teeth done as soon as I can afford it.
