Hello, I am new to posting but have been reading and following for some time!

Ernie was diagnosed in September 2020. We started Lantus and low carb food. He was slow to respond to the insulin and I finally found “Young Again Zero” dry food. I initiated that as his free choice dry food and use the Fancy Feast wet (4% carb) food at each insulin shot.

Ernie finally had a good response to the insulin and was well controlled on 1.5 u twice a day from February to April 2021.

For the last month I’m getting almost zero response to the insulin. I’ve tried lowering the dose and increasing the dose. I even tried stopping in case I was over dosing and causing a flat high.

He maintains at 18-20 no matter what dose of Lantus I use. I’ve had blood work, urinalysis, teeth checked - no underlying issues appear.

I’m considering switching to Caninsulin.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

How old is your insulin?

It would also greatly help if you'd set up your Signature and do our spreadsheet so we can see what's been going on. This thread on "How you can help us help you" has lots of information to help you.

We're very data driven here so without seeing a spreadsheet of what's been going on, we can't give you much in the way of helpful advice.

I suggest taking him to the vet to check for a UTI, dental issues, or hyperthyroid. Those are common reasons that insulin seems to stop working.

I agree with Chris. We're a bit hamstrung with respect to providing much insight without seeing a spreadsheet. Would it be possible for you to put one together that covers at lease a couple of weeks' worth of data?

My girl started on Caninsulin, and I switched her to Lantus. Caninsulin was horrible, it wore off four hours before the next shot. I wouldn't go back to Caninsulin. Turns out my girl needed a higher dose than average. If we can see your blood sugar test numbers, we can help you figure out what might be happening. A cat's insulin needs can change over time.
