How do you store an open bag of sub-q fluids? Vet medicine is VASTLY different from human medicine and human protocols. I would chunk it after X amount of hours if this was used on a person in a hospital.

What is the official expiration date for an opened bag of normosol? I've had it since the end of February and I've kept it stored in my closet hanging up on a coat hanger. I would think there'd be some type of limit as to how safely the fluid will keep until you have to ditch it but the office told me to just keep it stored at room temp away from direct sunlight. Also, thinking I will switch him to lactated fingers or something similar as I feel like the normosol may sting him or something. He was pretty antsy the last time I gave it. That can be ordered online, correct?

I've always kept the bag hanging on the pole until I am done with it (LRS). Usually 10-12 days. In the old house it sat in the dining room which was not out of the sunlight. The shelter stores theirs in the fridge if it is "opened" until used. End of February is only a few days ago so I think you are just fine.

Normosol is mean. They gave us that stuff a couple of times to try with Taz because of shortages and just a dingbat at the front desk. I could absolutely tell the difference in her comfort level. I wouldn't use that unless I needed the different electrolite composition.

I won't be giving it to him again. It's been over 10 days anyway and I swear it caused him some major discomfort. Idk why they gave those fluids over the lactated fingers but you would think they could take the animals' comfort into account. It was pretty blatantly obvious that he didn't like it but he was badly dehydrated and they were the only fluids we had. He just buried his little head in his blanket and waited...poor love.

LRS supply has been wonky since they put in new regulations a couple years ago. My vet would just not be able to order LRS sometimes, it wouldn't even put it on backorder, they just couldn't put in a request on it. So they started trying to switch their patients onto Normosol because the supply was better. I called em back after the first dose and told them they needed to get LRS in stock for Taz. She let you know quiet emphatically when she was unhappy :blackeye::cat:
