Good Morning,
I stopped the Zyrtec (antihistamine) for Boots itching. It just isn't worth the risk of HB sugars.
5 hrs into the dose, 8 hrs after shot.. she spiked to 151. Not high for some of your Kitties, but Booty hangs around
70/80's. Not only was her BS's high, but it made her really spaced and lifeless.
Yesterday I ran a curve without giving her the Zyrtec. 8 hrs. later BS's were 85 opposed to the 151 the day before.
Last night I start her on raw w/a premix. I'm hoping it solves the skin issue. Probably will run a curve
again because of the food change. Just checked BS's again, another 8 hrs. after shot. 89

If its a repeatable event, then it seems to support the theory.

Also - was this dose suggested by a vet? The dose has a lot to do with the number of side effects. Perhaps halving it would work if needed. Or a different med.

I gave her 5mg. pretty low dose already..vet recommended. That's a thought. I suppose I could try it again, maybe 2.5 mg. I just didn't like her reaction, so I put my hope on the raw diet. I also don't like the thought of putting her on meds.besides lantus.

I understand.
Keep in mind that some meds, when taken for a while, have the side effects taper off as the body becomes accustomed to it. So if it could really help her feel better, trying stepwise increases may allow her to get some relief.

Another possibility which occurrs to me is that if humans can have differening levels of enzymes that break down meds, the same may be true for cats. This means that some cats could be slower or faster at breaking down particular meds. And perhaps your cat just breaks it down slower, so a smaller dose may be used.
