Bart also has stomatitis.
He's been on prednisolone for 3 years, and that's what caused his diabetes.
I'd like to find an alternative to the pred. Even something natural?

Thank you.
I was just searchiong on here and read about 1TDC.
I'm thinking about trying it

Interesting. J.D. went to a Veterinary Dental Specialist (Dr. James Anthony) last January and has been using 1-TDC and a couple of dental drops, ever since.
I hope it helps Bart. I take a lancet and poke a hole in the capsule and spread it on J.D.'s gums every morning.
I wish you the best of luck.

Sometimes, you have to keep giving the pred, to help treat another health condition with your kitty, like the stomatitis. In that case, you need to adjust the insulin dose perhaps a tad differently than if your kitty was not getting any pred. It's better to help your kitty Bart with all his health conditions.

I would not be concerned about stopping the pred. He needs it to help him with the stomatitis.

OK, I understand:) I read that diabetics shouldn't be on pred, so I got a little concerned.
Thank you

Does he still have his teeth?
Yes he does

Well, my first plan would be to have most of the teeth pulled, especially those behind the canines. My Sweetie had severe stomatitis and now she only has her 4 canines and those little teeth in between. Her one and only (expensive!) dental was about 3 years ago and she hasn't had any more issues since then.

About a year and a half ago, I researched having the teeth pulled for my civie Libby because of her severe stomatitis. From what I read, success rates from full dental extraction for stomatitis, in helping the problem ranged from 40-50% from some studies to 70-80% in others. Not always a complete cure, did not help in all circumstances but it was something I was considering doing.

Unfortunately, testing including echocardiogram and ultrasound, showed Libby's heart disease had progressed to the point it was too risky to put her under anesthesia. She is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge.
