Ok. So. I got the kids off the kibble. I was switching from FF to Friskies to see what they liked and they seemed to like them both. I read that low phospherous was important and started them on Special diet turkey and giblets pate. Someone on here already told me I don't need to worry too much unless they have kidney/ UT issues, so I already know I can change the flavors without worry...
Here's the fun part. I've noticed Charlie's poopies are GAG WORTHY. Not that his old ones smelled like roses, but you know what I mean. I haven't smelled my civilian cat so I don't know if its both or not.
I checked the litter box and there is no diarrhea. I feel bad though because his stool is soft and there isn't a "clean break" ifya know what I mean. Today he had a little mud that I had to wipe off. :?
I'm sorry this is gross!!
Do you think it will get better when his tummy is more used to it??
I was also putting Miralax in their food but stopped today, just to see if it would help.
Thoughts????

Good job! I hope you are testing his blood though as a change of food to low carb can cause a dramatic drop in blood glucose.

My Baileys poops were that bad too until he was regulated. They were big and fluffy and pale and rancid smelling. Once we had him regulated, they got more normal. But it could also be the food change. It might take a couple of weeks to settle down but i would keep an eye on it.

Hey Wendy. I'm checking him regularly, he never gets below the mid 200s. I'm upping him to .75 tomorrow and will monitor closely. This is the first time I have switched to wet food. I'll give him some time and just keep an eye out. I'm excited to get him feeling better. He deserves it :)

My Henry, I didn't even think about whether he was fed dry by his previous owner so he got switched cold-turkey to wet. I definitely remember the first two weeks, his was rank in comparison to Michelangelo's! The smell does get better over time (or you just get used to it! ).

Christina....you make me laugh

Post is not gross....I know exactly where you are coming from.

My whole 10-room house reeked of "The Stinky Poopies" (yes...that is exactly what I called them) when I first changed my kitties from dry to wet food in the beginning of March. Couldn't wait to clean the litter boxes....PHEEEWWW !!! The "stinkies" have gone away .... I suppose it just takes a couple weeks for their systems to get used to the wet food. Some kitties did have very soft poop....but firmed up better after awhile.

:-Q to "The Stinky Poopies"

No worries. We're used to talking about poo here.   In fact, it's one of the 5 P's we look for in the WCR (whole cat report).

Peeing
Purring
Preening
Pooping
Playing

and also a mention of the appetite is noteworthy to let us see how things are going with your cat. If all are present, good job.

Yes, the Miralax could contribute to the odor by keeping everything soft, which can accelerate the rate of discharge. Miralax is useful when the cat has a problem with constipation AND is not partially or completely blocked.

If the cat was previously on dry, maybe the gut bacteria aren't balanced right and so digestion is a bit off. You might try adding some probiotics, such as a teaspoon of plain yogurt with active cultures, or a pet-specific blend such as FortiFlora (available online from our shopping partner Amazon, among others).

If the cat has not been diagnosed with a renal insufficiency or a bladder stone problem, you may not need to use the special diet Friskies.

Have you ruled out infectious or parasitic causes such as giardia, coccidia, campylobacter, salmonella, and worms (hook, whip, round, or tape)? Some of those may cause foul feces too!
