HI all
Robbie is doing just about the same have had some good numbers on a couple of days and in general he seems to feel better - he's sleeping in our bed at night with us again and seems to feel OK. We just broke open our last vial of Prozinc and spoke to my vet who doesn't have any on hand so I'm thinking that dreaded discussion on do we switch insulin is probably about 3 weeks or so away
Have not been on here - miss the input and connection but work is just insane and we have a lot of work to do around our house - LOTS - putting a new floor in our living room and a few other things.
Thinking of everyone here and STILL am NOT up to date on our SS - YIKES - but I have it all written in a book so I will get to it eventually than I will ahve questions about bounce or no bounce on a few days. Seems if I go even a DROP over about 5.25 he goes way down and than BOUNCE... we shall see.
Thanks again all for your help and understanding whenever I do have time to bother you all.

Glad to hear Robbie is doing well and sorry your life is complicated. I am thinking work settles down in the winter months?

I wonder if the fact he reacts so stronger to a dose over The 5.25 is actually a good sign. I know we have always had the possibility of Acro or other high dose conditions in the back of our minds. But with them, I think you would just continue to give more insulin without a sign of lower numbers.

Sue thanks for responding. He goes VERY low - like 90's and than BOUNCES big time at the PMPS or AMPS like into mid 400's or higher. So I'm really careful we just do a SMIDGE over 5. I tried doing a little less than 5 and he didn't budge much at all. The food situation continues to play a big role. We just got him some of the really low cal FF - it's Cod I think? and are giving that for all meals except his main morning meal and his main evening meal and his numbers got lower. Also for 2 days in a row something interesting happened. We've slowly moved his shots from 5:30 to 7:00 because I really started to be NOT WELL getting up at 5:30 am every day - I was SHOT cause I could never fall back to sleep, have to be up at 7am anyway and also I often work until 7 or 9pm and so I'm not in bed very early SO anyway - we moved him to 7/7 for shots. So he gets dinner at 5ish most nights - well Tuesday and Wednesday with dinner at 5pm he was tested before feeding and was at about 300 both times (this is now amps+10) and than at pmps time (7) he was like 240 or lower. Signficant enough for me to feel it was his BG going lower not just a differenetial. Thoughts???

I don't think I am following this, Ellen. So you test him at +10, feed him and retest at +12 and he is lower (or within the variance) at +12, even with the food? I wonder if it could have something to do with getting rid of the anxiety of eating - that he is less stressed 2 hours later because he has eaten? I don't think it can be the pancreas helping out?

I don't know, but I'd stick with what is improving his numbers. Hopefull Carl with check in and give us some scientific mumbo gumbo that explains it?

Calling all Carls LOL - I don't know Sue was perplexing but happened two days in a row - haven't had a chance to see if it's duplicated again. But he does seem to be feeling a bit better

Hi Ellen, it's good to hear from you, I'm glad to hear that Robbie is doing well.

Interesting about the feeding changes. I can't wait to hear what Carl has to say about it.

I hope things settle down for you soon.

Carl needs more data:-)
On the two occasions where you saw the drop two hours after eating, what happened next? Did you get any tests in the 6 hours after the shots? I understand Sue's thinking about hunger stress, but.... I can't think of a physiological reason for a 60 point drop that also would erase the bg boost from the food that would be at least 100 points above and beyond the 60 point drop other than Robbie's pancreas producing insulin to drop it. Cod/seafood is very low carb, but even zero carb food boosts BG levels. Cats turn protein and fat into glucose, which is why any carbs are too much carbs. But even zero carbs causes glucose levels to increase. Something is combatting that. And it isn't the shot of insulin doing it, because it doesn't "onset" until an hour or two after the shot.

Carl

Sort of my thoughts too Carl. As soon as I'm in post SANDY mode I'll try and check my data. Still have not updated the SS as I"m sure you know but I have all the info in a notebook.
thanks
