I'm getting a Lantus pen so I can finally start Snickers on Lantus. Currently she is on 2 1/2U of Vetsulin 2x daily. She gets her Vetsulin at 8am (give or take a few minutes). I want to give her the Lantus at 10:30 instead of 8 with half her breakfast at 8ish and the other half at shot time. It will be easier for us to have the later shot time, especially at night. What would be the correct way to switch the time. Can I just start her on the Lantus at 10:30? Or do I need to slowly move shot time to 10;30? Also, I know to check her blood so do I need to start checking right when she starts Lantus or wait a few days for her body to adjust to it and then start checking?

If you'd usually shoot the vetsulin at 8pm, there's no reason you can't skip it and start the lantus at 10:30pm

You should always test before shot times and at least once mid-cycle during the AM cycle and a "before bed" test on the PM cycle...even from day 1 since we have no way of knowing how each cat will respond, but yes, you're probably not going to see the "full effect" of the dose of lantus until you've been on it at least 5 days to "load the depot"

I'll probably start her in the morning ( after it gets here) so I don't panic all night, lol. And I will go pick up some more strips. Thanks!!!
