Hi,
I just did a +11 test on Yoko, which was really +11.25 and it was 133 (on Lantus) I would normally feed her in 15 minutes. I just started her SS chart today so there is only 2 days data there. Can someone take a look - it's in my signature. I am new to home testing and only 4 months into this journey. Big learning curve :)

UPDATE: +12 = 111

What should I do? How often can I keep poking this kids ear without creating a problem there? I don't want to keep poking the same spots- any advice for that as well?
Thank you!
Gabrielle

Hi Gabrielle,

I expect I'm too late to be of help but...
With that preshot and the data that you have I can only say that if it were my cat I would skip this shot: the reason being that it is well below 200 (actually a 'normal' number for a cat);and it is a falling number (the BG is still dropping).

Just going to have a look at your SS.

Just had a look at the SS, Gabrielle.

The blood glucose level has dropped over the past few hours and may continue to drop. As a general rule you want to see that the peak of the cycle has passed (the lowest number of the cycle) and that the blood glucose is rising when you give the shot.

It looks to me as though the dose needs to be reduced because you are getting preshots that are too low for you to shoot. And if you reduce the dose you may get a dose you can shoot am and pm. However I am not a Lantus user, and - regarding the dose reduction - you really need advice from others experienced in that insulin.

You are seeing great numbers there though. Very promising indeed.

As to the ear-pricking; are you varying the test site slightly? And pressing firmly on the test site for a few seconds immediately after each test? And some folks here use Neosporin initially to help the ears to heal. The ears do bleed more easily over time too (they grow extra blood vessels!)
If it's any reassurance, I've been testing my cat for seven and a half years and his ears are just fine.

Thank you Elizabeth,
I did decide to shoot after stalling for an hour and a half at a reduced dose because her a.m. number have been higher. I stayed up (until 1:30 am) to do a +2 which had dropped a bit so I put out about 8 kibbles of dry food in case she needed them (she ate them) and woke up at 5:30 and did a +6 (133) and she was on the way back up. I will do her AMPS in half an hour.
