My cat will not eat and her BG is 375. I offered her her "forbidden" food and she only licked it. It is currently 830pm here. She did eat breakfast and lunch and took her morning insulin. Not sure if I should wait overnight to see if she will eat. Should I withhold her PM insulin? How long should i wait before taking her to the vet/emergency if she is not eating??

She is on prozinc 1 unit. She eats three times a day and ate breakfast and lunch and did get her AM insulin. She is listless, has a watery eye and is swallowing frequently.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Prozinc, so I can't offer advice on dosing, but the swallowing frequently may be a sign of nausea which could explain why she isn't interested in eating at the moment. Could you perhaps try a few things on this list which might encourage her to eat?

How to stimulate a kitty's appetite

Ideally you usually don't want to go longer than around 24 hours without the kitty eating.

Thank you! Should i give her any insulin if she is not eating? How long should i wait before taking her to the vet/emergency?

I wish I knew more about the insulin, I really don't know if you should give any...I'm quickly trying to read the Prozinc forum info. Are you able to test for ketones? How is she acting otherwise?

With her in the high 300's, I'd go ahead and give her a smaller dose of insulin and test at least a few times over the next few hours (maybe more IF necessary)

How do you feel about .5 ?

If she's still not eating by morning, or takes a sudden turn for the worse, she needs to be seen at the vet.

You should be testing for ketones too

She is sleeping and tired, has a watery eye and kept swallowing frequently. I do have strips for ketone testing...I am waiting for her to go to the litter and will test.

I do test for ketones from time to time. Do u think the .5 will make her BG too low? I would not think not. I am going to take her to the vet/emergency tomorrow if she still doesn't eat. Thanks!

There's no way to know so it'll be important for you to keep testing for awhile tonight.

Once you have a few minutes, we need you to set up your signature (the information you see under all our comments) and if you haven't already started one, get a spreadsheet going. We really depend on our spreadsheet to give you the best advice possible.

To do your Signature, click on your sign on name (top right) and choose "Signature". A new box will pop up for you to enter info like:

Your name/cat's name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health issues or meds? and a general location. Once you have your spreadsheet set up, you'd add the link to it too.

Here's the info on Setting up the FDMB spreadsheet
