Hi Friends:
Could you guys check out my SS? I don't have too much data yet, and I may have made too many adjustments to our dosing to pick up any trends...but I need to decide what dose to instruct my cat sitter to give cody over the weekend without her testing him. My inclination at this point is to have her give him .5U 2x/day...it looks like 1 unit brings him down too low to shoot again 12 hours later. I have not been able to get any good +6 numbers, but I will try my hardest tonight. As for tonight, we're just about at the 12hour mark and too low to shoot. I'll try again in an hour and see if he's >200. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tracy

I' m confused with your ss. So you gave .5 last night (was that at +11 or was this morning?). And then one unit this morning? Looks like one unit is definitely too much. And looks like you will have to skip tonight. So tomorrow, I would stick with the .5 and see what happens.

I like the idea of .5 for your petsitter unless you give it consistently the next few cycles before you leave and get lower numbers. Any midcycle numbers are very useful.

If you were going to be around, I'll probably suggest a dose somewhere between .5 and one, but .5 seems safest for the sitter.

Thanks, Sue. So last light at 8p, I gave him .5U...but slept through my chance to get a mid-cycle number. So all of the numbers I have for that 12 hour block are in the low 200s, but I don't know how low he ever went. This morning he was at 245 and in my sleepy state I made a weird decision...I gave him .5u at 7am and another .5u at 8am. My logic isn't even worth typing, so I'll spare you, but now 12 hours later he's too low to shoot. I might be able to stall another 30 min and test again, but it doesn't seem to be climbing too fast. If he stays lower than 200, I'm thinking skip tonight and have the sitter keep him at .5 all weekend. Not to complicate the scenario, but do I need to worry about ketones if he stays in the 200-300 range all weekend? I haven't even begun to think about how I'll start getting a stick in his pee.

You could get a ketone test before you leave. Oliver would never pee if we were watching, so we put aquarium gravel in a clean box and left him in a room with it. He couldn't bear not to christen a clean box, so after he went, we could swoop in and get our sample.

Hi Tracy and Cody. Welcome to FDMB. Cody and my Merlin are on the same insulin - Prozinc. Anyway, I see you were going to test for ketones. Sue gives a great suggestion with using aquarium gravel in the litter box. Also I thought I would share with you that you can just stick that test strip back just behind his tail while he is peeing. I didn't think Merlin would go for it but he doesn't mind and just keeps peeing. There is a link somewhere on this site where it gives other suggestions as well. Good luck and have a great weekend.
