SS?

I have set up the Google dog for Frakies SS, but I don't have a clue how to use it... I was going to enter in her BGs which I started testing yesterday evening and I am picking up some Lantus and other supplies in the morning, so I wanted to have this put together for reference. Is there a quick reference guide as to how to use this?

So, AMPS is the morning pre-shot number - before she eats so no food spike
U is the dose, eg. 1.25
Then you put any bg test results in the +1, +2 etc..
so, if you shoot at 8am and then test at 11am, the result would go in +3 - you can do half hours as +3.5

PMPS is the evening pre-shot number

The spreadsheet has conditional formatting so it will color the cells based on the key at the top .

Remarks is anything you want to add. A lot of us put in when the kitty was fed, eg. +3 .5FF (half can Fancy Feast at +3) or any meds taken or anything else you may want to take a note of.

Okay, then I have her test numbers in the log book I'll start using the SS when I start injections. Her test was 238 before breakfast and I'll have insulin around 9 am.

238 is a nice low number. (we urge new members not to shoot under 200). I would think you'd want to start on a low dose, if you start. (please get some input on that and remember that her number could be higher at the vet because she is stressed there) It may be that a few more days of wet low carb could bring her down more on her own. (some cats take a week or more to react completely to the diet change).

Can anyone give some insight as to whether we might be able to diet manage this? Her numbers have been getting better since we started the diet change, but I'm not sure what her 9am numbers are going to look like... I'm guessing the low 300s, but I will update when I get the test done. I will also have insulin by then, so I will be able to shoot if necessary.

I am home testing and have got it down to minimal stress on both of us I am not doing anything without getting some feed back after her 9am test...

Before you do anything insulin wise, print up the what to do in case of hypo sticky (I say print it because sometimes the internet goes down and you can't access it online) This gives guidlines for what to do if their blood sugar goes too low....ie the insulin dose has been too high....this is especially a risk since you're starting so soon after changing her diet.

Also you should get onto the Lantus tight regulation group (even though you're not going to do tight regulation) Click on Board index and you'll see their group listed below. Introduce yourself and let them know what you're doing. They'll be able to consul you on doses etc. They like people to post just 1 topic per day and keep adding to that one topic. The advantage of being in this group is they are very familiar with the type of insulin you're using and there are so many online day and night that you can get consul at almost any hour of the day....often there are members who will sit up with you all night if you're worried Frankie's BG is too low etc.

Right now I am in the relaxed group. Based on her numbers, we are not thinking she will need to be TR... but should probably go introduce just to say hi and let them know what's going on in case of emergency. I do have the Hypo Instructions printed and plan on picking up some emergency kit items today. I don;t think Frankie is going to get insulin for at least a day or two because she is showing such positive reaction to diet change. I have everything I need to shoot, but I am wanting to be sure that she can't be diet managed before I go that route. I am going to do a BG curve tonight so see whats doing with the Pancreas hopefully tomorrow I'll have a better idea whats going on.
