I think she dosed .8...but could have given less.He has always been a grazer..but is not interested in eating too much...a few kernels, few bites of chicken, few licks of juice from wet food...
Depressing....
Any thoughts? Should we hold off more insulin?
She will get some curve spot checks today...

Hmmm, wish I had a good answer for you. The #s don't look improved on the lower dose, so maybe that +2 133 was just a wonky # from not eating right during that zone of the curve? I'd be thinking maybe back up to 1u? She may just have to live with wonky #s if his eating varies, and if he's eating some dry (which of course is needed if he won't eat other food). I'm thinking maybe a TR approach is going to be stressful, but it would be nice if he could get more blues. :( Hopefully some others will have some ideas.

well, my vet's belief is that a tablespoon of food at a time is enough for a "mini-meal" assuming that food is left available for grazing.

This has worked fine for Norton and now Tiggy and Rusty. Of course I don't restrict them to that amount if they want more -- but I don't withhold giving a shot if they eat a small amount.

The main thing is to make sure they are not going to puke before giving the shot

Hi Jen - and Hi jean,
Sorry I was gone the past few days and really didn't have much access to computer.

I have to agree with Phoebe that regardless if they eat a little or more - they need that insulin! With those flat numbers and not much change between the 0.8 and the 1 unit I really don't think you are giving too much. I gotta wonder about that 133 - it being a "fluke". All your other numbers are still in the 200's. Just wondering if Squiggy is drinking enough - he couldn't be "too dry". Just being an older cat and all. What is the skin on the back of his neck like when you pull it up?

Is there any way you could give a 3rd dose in the day? I know that's overwhelming and difficult to do especially in the beginning - but maybe - just maybe - he needs that extra boost right now. But only if he can be tested/monitored closely. Jean - I don't know what your schedule is. Jen - you remember how Spunky was - and yes I know he had something different but I know I saw this in many other cats who had DM (only) that used a TR approach. Squiggy seems stuck in the 200's. Or else - maybe bump up his dose by 0.2 units and give 1.2 units bid. The 1 unit doesn't seem to be touching those numbers at all.

Any chance you could talk to the vet to get more info on that insulin??? At first when I saw that 133 at +2 - it made me think of vetsulin. Typical response!

I'll check back later on you. I don't know if I'm helping or harming more. I know I tend to think too much @-)
