Sept 20. Vet said he does not want to put her on insulin till she stays in the solid 300's. (This am before eating she was 242 and an hour after food she was 273). He said that he doesn't want to risk a low blood sugar that might make her more likely to have a seizure. I will continue testing her and advise him when she is at a higher level. So far her mouth symptom is pretty much gone and she is eating better---tho still just is not herself and looks like she has lost weight (not been weighed recently).

Considering she's been having problems eating and you haven't given insulin, those aren't awful numbers (diabetic numbers to be sure, but not through the clouds). Maybe your vet is hoping that once Squamee starts eating low-carb wet food regularly, the diabetes will be diet controlled?

THe vet believes the diabetic numbers are steroid-induced. He gave her 2 shots last week in an attempt to resolve her eating problem. She had the same problem a year ago and the steroids worked--although they made her diabetic for about 3 months. She has been on lo-carb wet food ever since last year (altho I was giving her the gravies for while when she seemed totally unable to eat) But now he believes the mouth symptoms are a result of a brain tumor (dental x-rays, skull x-rays, ultrasound all showed nothing), since she had a seizure on Friday. I don't know what to expect next.
