Spreadsheet questions

Is there somewhere I can read on how to use the template spreadsheet? I am trying to undserstand it but not quite gripping what the + numbers at the top (ie. +1, +2, etc.) mean or how to use them. Do we have to use this spreadsheet when trying to get advice on BG readings? Or can we just post the time of the day and the BG reading?

You need the spreadsheet because people need to see your history of doses and numbers when you ask for dosing advice. It isn't a single number that you base a dose on; you need to look at trends.

Starting from the left hand side
Date. Amps= morning number before the shot and food U=units of insulin given. +1 = one hour after the shot, +6 = 6 hours etc. Pmps = evening number before the shot and food. U = units given +1, +3 etc during the night cycle.

Does that make sense?

Welcome! Sue is quite right about the need for a spread sheet; however, I believe that at the beginning (and so you don't get overwhelmed) members would happily help you if you just post the numbers. I had problems with my old computer and the ss=spread sheet. Got lots of help. My sugar baby is now in remission. And night is coming (where I am it is 7:30 in the evening) which can be a particularly worrisome time!

What insulin are you using? Dose? Where are you located?

Sophie is right. I didn't mean to imply you couldn't get help if you post your numbers. I just meant to explain why spreadsheets were important.

Do you need specific help tonight?
 
Hi Kerrie and welcome. I couldn't find anything how to use the spreadsheet either, but I eventually figured it out on my own. The conditional formatting makes it excellent for those of us who'd rather see how our sugarcats progress on a visual basis.

I think I understand now thanks Sue! I will learn how to download the spreadsheet onto the board this weekend. But for now will post the BG readings to the insulin group to find out what they think my next step should be. It is not an ememrgency thankfully but I am stumped as to when to give the insulin as his numbers are never much above 11.1 (I want to follow the relaxed lantus regulation group).

Welcome! You'll learn that the spreadsheet will become your greatest tool in your 'sugarcat' toolbox! After you get used to entering numbers, you'll begin seeing patterns and learn how YOUR cat reacts to things. Each cat is different - something that doesn't spike one cat may cause a 100 point spike in another one. Just as a quick example, there are some new treats on the market that I tried with KT. The Salmon flavor doesn't spike him at all while the same treat but chicken flavor will cause a 50-75 point spike within half an hour. If I hadn't been testing and putting that info on his spreadsheet, I never would have picked up on that small nuance. Now I have one different treat I can give him but the other flavors are no=no's.

Since we all use the same approach, it's easy for others to help us when we have questions. We've been doing this for over a year and STILL have questions and issues we've not run into before.
