Spirit is my civvie who was rescued by someone on this board. I adopted him three years ago, right after I lost Seasaidh to cancer. Spirit was dx'd with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Jan 2011 and has been on meds and aspirin ever since. He recently had a check up with bloodwork and an echocardiogram and everything looked great. So, tomorrow Spirit is scheduled for a much needed dental. He has two broken canines that will be extracted. I am very very nervous even though the cardiologist gave the OK. Spirit has been off the aspirin for a week but he's still on the atenolol and Enalapril. The vet is going to do a BMBT (bleeding test) before the dental. Hopefully it will be an uneventful dental. But if you could spare a good thought or prayer for him I would be very grateful. Spirit and I helped each other heal during a rough time and he's very special to me. I'm not sure of his age, but I'd guess he's around five. Thank you so much. I will try to attach a recent pic of him from my phone.

Sending many prayers for a trouble free dental for Spirit. Gorgeous! I remember when you adopted him and I can so relate to the worry with HCM. Hope has RCM and has had it for over 5 1/2 years. Please let us know when you can, Heather.

Re: Please keep civvie Spirit in your prayers tomorrow

Thank you SO MUCH, guys!! Spirit did very well. He's still waking up and she wants to keep him there a few more hours. She extracted the two broken canines that we knew about, and she said he also had FORL's. I was talking on my cell phone and unfortunately I have a really bad signal here and I lost the call while she was talking about that. Spirit had already lost a tooth from the FORL's but I don't know which one. She said that while everything went well she doesn't want him to go under anesthesia ever again and she (and I) hope that he won't have a problem with FORL's in the future. She said there is nothing you can do to prevent them.

I'm just so happy he's alright. Hopefully I'll be able to get him to take his evening pills in his pill pocket, but the vet said not to worry about it if he doesn't want to take it. She said he'll feel much better in the morning.

Thank you so much for your prayers!!
