Well spice seems to be acting more like herself this last week. She is nibbling at the food a little more but I am still having to hand feed her. She just licks at the regular food. Only reason I know is I measure her food before and after. I am wondering if she has teeth issues or if the pancreatits is still going on. She goes to the vet for bloodwork on Thurs and I will ask about her teeth. She can't seem to get the food by licking. I have watched my other cats and they don't lick the food. they use their teeth. But other than that we are doing what the vet has ordered.

Hmmm, that is good she is doing better, but too bad she won't eat well on her own. Do they have her on meds for nausea? That's kind of what my kitty was doing, sniffing/licking at food but not actually eating it, and nausea meds & steroids have really helped her and now she is eating normally. Steroids are risky of course b/c they can raise BGs, but with her it was our last resort.

Anyhow, hope Spice continues to improve, yay! Hopefully the vet will have some good ideas to get her eating better.

Pain meds too?

Have they considered a feeding tube or subQ fluids? Feeding by syringe?

I know you know how important it is that she eats, David. Sometimes vets are not as agressive as they could be. If I were you, I would push them.

Hi David, My boy Harley also has pancreatitis. For what it's worth, one thing that's helped me get him to eat is Gerber baby chicken or baby turkey food. It's the only thing he'll eat on his own right now without encouragement, trickery or spoon feeding. I learned this when nursing several CRF cats. If they didn't eat the baby food it was off to the vet.

EDIT: Re: the licking food, Harley does that too. He does it under normal circumstances but especially now. The best way I can describe it is that to me he seems to be trying to suck all the moisture out of the food - and leaves the food. Is that what Spice is doing?

Sending healing vibes your way so Spicey is feeling better soon.

David, check this with other folks here, dunno if extra water is ok for cats with pancreatitis, but I wonder if blending some water with the wet food would help Spice lick her food up? Just add some water and mash it up with a fork until it is blended and more like baby food. Just a thought...
