So Charlie is currently on 50Mcg of Cabergoline in the evening and the specialist vet has suggested we do 50mcg am and pm, has anyone done a high dose of 100mcg per day?
What are some thoughts? His current weight is 6kilos

I would not. Although there are limited studies, they maxed at 10mcg/kg daily. Even for its other uses, I cannot find anything above 10mcg/kg daily. I worry about the liver, heart, and lungs with long term use, especially at high doses.

Remember it often takes around 6 weeks to see results. You're coming up on that, so if it were me I'd sit tight for about another month and see what happens.

Also - you can increase by 1.5U at this point with his numbers. Think of it as 10% of total dose. So once you hit 20U, 2U increases, etc. You're doing a great job staying on top of increases. Don't forget the fur shot resets cycle count

    Thank you.
I might see why she is thinking of upping the dose but yes we haven’t reached 60 days as I have 15 pills Cabergoline left. I also don’t know if she is aware of the FLUTD we are dealing with.
She may have seen his last ultrasound where his internal problems (IBD, liver, kidney etc are improving and heart is perfect) but I don’t want to take a step back and cause more issues.
    Thank you Melissa

Thanks for that. I was going to increase tonight but will leave it. I can’t believe I did a fur shot. Although I want myself.

Out of curiosity, what type of vet is the specialist you refer to? As Melissa referred to with the formula, he could go up to 60 mcg per day.

Is there any way you can get 2 tests per cycle? I see no tests after PMPS the last four nights. If it was possible for you to get 2 tests per cycle, we might be able to help you fast track the dose to get him in range of better numbers sooner. Too much red/pink now. But I wouldn't want to fast track without more tests and you posting more frequently.

I will be doing more at night but I have had a health scare which ended with me in hospital, I’m fine but I haven’t been able to get nights as the drugs I’m taking knock me about at night.
But off them now and will be doing more.

the specialist work is Sash Vets in Sydney Dr Amy Lam she works with Dr Patrick Kenny who was one of the first to do the Acro op In London.

I see she an internal medicine specialist, that's good.

I see you got an overnight test last night, that's great. I think you could safely increase to 19 units. We do increases 10-15% of total dose, and given you haven't seen anything below 300 for ages, I think it'd be fine to go up that amount next.

Unless there were studies showing that going that high with Cabergoline was safe, I would not do it -- because I would then be experimenting on my cat to see what happens.

I would go to 60 mcg per day though.

Good luck with the increase on Charlie. I'm sorry you were sick! I hope you're on the mend now.

    Thank you.
I’m feeling much better. It was more a precaution.
