My vet suspects that Chester is coping with Somogyi rebound, which is sending his numbers all over the place. We're going to back his dose back down from 2.5 to 2.0 U twice a day, increase testing and see if that levels him out. She would prefer (at this point) to see him leveled out higher instead of bouncing all over the place. I think I agree.

So that's it? Just back down his dose and wait it out?

When you frequently have to skip because the glucose is too low (and that number starts at 200, them may slowly be lowered as data show it is safe), you may be giving too much.

Your objective is a dose that may be given every safely 12 hours, doesn't take the cat too low (stays at/above 50), and keeps the glucose as low as possible otherwise. You've been doing some skipping which will totally jumble your numbers, so yes, backing off should help.

Some cats are unused to the speed of the drop from insulin, some cats are taken to lower levels than accustomed to having, and some cats just react to dose changes erratically for a few days (ak "new dose wonkiness"). All of these may contribute to erratic glucose values, too.

I would reduce dose based on what they say.. plus you really need to get some night tests in - set the alarm for +6 and see if you can catch to see how low he is going. I worry it could be dangerously low.
