Something is not right with Forrest. Last night he was fine wanted to go out and was out for about an hour and 1/2. When he came in, he was fine. He had a midnight snack with Bubba and then eventually came and got into bed with me. When DH wanted to get into bed later, Forrest did not want to move. DH had to pick him up to move him so he could get into bed. Ordinarily, he'd move over by just nudging him.

Through the wee hours of the AM when I would get up to test Bubba, he would not accompany me and he usually does because he knows he will get a poke treat too. I thought that odd and then dismissed it that he was just tired.

Then at AM feeding time, he would not get off my bed and come and eat. Very odd for him. I went back to bed for two hours and when I awoke he still was not interested in getting off the bed to go eat it. When I tired to pick him up, he yelped. I thought if I offered him some Young Again (his favorite and he doesn't get it often because of Bubba ) and he seemed interested, sniffing but would not get up to eat it. If I put in down a few pieces at a time at his paws, he ate but, only about 1/2 tbsp.

I transferred him off the bed into a laundry basket with a blanket and he cries when I pick him up.

Any ideas? He has never been sick before.

It's always possible that a kitty outside on his own could ingest something he shouldn't be eating. I'm sure you've checked him for obvious injuries, but could he have had an encounter with a vehicle? These are the first two things that came to mind. I think a call to the vet might be in order and I wouldn't delay. Hope he'll be doing better very soon. Hugs.

At the vets. Forrest temp is slightly elevated. He checked out okay otherwise. Vet was wondering if he got into a fight while outside but couldn't find any wounds. She said he was a bit dehydrated and gave sub Q fluids and gave us antibiotic, baytril for a week. She also did blood work at my request and gave him an injection of onsior for pain relief. She asked about whether he had trouble defecating and if he did to add miralax to his food. We no sooner got home and inside the carrier with him was the hardest poop I have ever seen from him!!! So, I think we got our answer as to why he didn't want to eat or be touched. He was interested in eating when he got home. Even though it was an expensive appointment, he got some much needed blood work and I have peace of mind ( what little bit I have left) ;)

Dehydration would explain the hard turd for sure. I know he already got squids but mabye get him to drink some extra water for the next day or 2? I can get Pimp to drink 50ml at a time by adding chicken dust to it;)

Andy what a great idea! I always wonder what to do with all the chicken dust! You gave me the another great tip with rehydrated the chicken and pulling the pill inside. It worked like a charm when I had to pill my dog.

The funny thing is, Forrest all ready drinks a lot of water. I always see him at the bowl. Guess he needs more. Hopefully the labs won't show that he is starting with kidney issues.

Definitely good that you did blood work even if just peace of mind--
Rico is going on 6 years with SQ and when we get out yearly blood work if it is a different vet they don't know he has CKD :)
He has remained 11-12 pounds as well.
glad the report was informative :) yay for poop!

I hope Forrest is feeling better. Do you give pumpkin or miralax on a regular basis?

That is very encouraging because at Forrest's age, he think he's around 14 he's bound to start falling apart.....

I give pumpkin AM and PM everyday to all the animals. The vet said she thought the miralax would help more.

I do both. A little pumpkin in each meal I'm home for. A little miralax in the feeder meals at night or when working. I don't give it in single doses as I don't want them to have cramps or in Smokey case really bad gas. So I spread it out during the day.

Just thinking....
How much miralax do you use. And I think I read mix in a lot of water into the food?
If using a laxative you want to make sure water intake is up because it can dehydrate them.
I'm not sure you'd want to give miralax to Forrest right now, as it will draw fluids out of his body and into the intestine/bowels.

I think most use 1/8 tsp a day. I use less since I use pumpkin also. I just sprinkle on the food, add a little water. I don't add a lot of water like most do, or he won't eat it. Just enough to thin out the food and mix it in. When using the feeder I put one ice cube in the middle of the food.

Look to the area that's painful, and go over it with a fine toothed comb. (literally, like a flea comb)..and part the skin to see if there are any tooth or claw marks. Even a vet might miss one tiny claw puncture. I know you've already possibly found the problem, (constipation or spoiled food), but do the wound search again, anyway. Infection from a wound can be so sneaky deadly. We almost lost a cat from this, so it's worth the second-guessing to go over him again. Sometimes hunting cats will recieve a tiny bite from a rodent, too.

Give him lots of love and cuddles. :bighug: Just in case he's become constipated from some unknown stress. I sure hope he's feeling better now. Don't you just love that freeze dried chicken? We're going to try the duck, next.

Well, Dottie and Gizmo will try it:p I'll just look for the paw-thumbs up from them.

This is Rico --he will be 17 this summer and has been getting fluids since he was 11....
