I have Solostar Lantus Pens but also received the needles that go on the pen. Has anyone ever used these for their kitties. If not, how do I dispose of them.

You don't need to use the pen needles with a diabetic cat.

A Human diabetic screws the pen needle onto the end of the SoloStar pen and "dials" the dose amount on the other end of the pen and pushes the button ontop to inject the insulin. You can only dose in whole unit increments this way. For a picture of how a Human diabetic would use the pen, see the picture here: http://www.lantus.com/images/hcp/charts/breakout.gif

For cats and the various in-between whole unit doses they may need, just use insulin syringes with the SoloStar

If the pen needles you have are not opened yet, you can probably return them to the pharmacy. If not, see if you can give them away to a Human diabetic. FreeCycle.org and Craigslist are two places you can post them. Or just dispose of the pen needles in your Sharps container.

Most likely, the pharmacy will not take the needles back. I know the pharmacies in Florida will not. If your dose is in one unit increments, you could use them. You would dispose of them the same way you would syringes.
