He's making things hard on me again, lol. I tested myself with the meter and got 89, and that is fasting, so I assume the meter is working correctly.

I was concerned because last night I had my fiance test while I was at work and he left the cap open on the strip holder  guess I should have known better. The cap was open for about four hours probably, and I took his amps reading after I saw he left the cap open. So I guess the strips are still okay since I got a normal number for myself and his readings did not have much variance and they were maybe 5-10 minutes apart.

I am definitely not going to give him a shot this low since I am headed to work soon.

Another thing, he fed him half a can of the w/d stuff last night at about +8 (another ) so I was thinking that high 504 may have been because of the w/d, but he was already at 396 before the food anyway, so I don't know. And I don't know what could be attributed to his extremely low number today.

I should be home at around +9 from pmbg, hopefully sooner to see where he is at then.

Wow! Just when I think he is up in high numbers again, he isn't! I know it's a wild ride, but I imagine you realize he would have hypoed numerous times if you weren't testing! I was ready to say increase. Sure glad you didn't. He is a hard kitty to predict.

Yeah he sure isn't making this easy, lol. One day he goes from 500 down to a low of just under 300 and another he goes from 500 down to under 100. Can't he make up his mind?

I just hope he isn't having a really long cycle and is still dropping but I have someone checking on him, hopefully at least twice tonight. I'm going to have to show her how to test his BG if she is willing.

I checked him right before I left for work and a few minutes after he ate and he was 96 or possibly 92, I don't remember.

The good thing at least is he seems to be acting his normal self lately, even my fiance who is usually extremely non observant has noticed that he has been more upbeat.

The whole cat report is important too. How they are acting, are they purring, preening, playing, peeing & pooing. If the 5 P's are in place it will tell you that Socks is doing well.

It will be interesting to see how long the cycle lasts tonight. You just never know when Mr. P will pay a visit.

While it's not good to leave the cap open on the test strip vial, it doesn't mean that they are ruined. The test strips are most sensitive to humidity, too much moisture so that is one reason for keeping them capped. I understand there is a little bit of an anti-dessicant, along the side of the vial usually, to help keep them dry.

Exposure to direct sunlight can also degrade the test strips. As long as the room they were in was not too hot or too cold the test strips should be fine.

Well, the best way to deal with a waking pancreas is to "chase" the numbers. Is it possible to do this with the help of your friends? The idea is to wait until he is above 200 and rising. Then shoot. In Sock's case, a small dose like .5 or less. (If you don't have them, you may want to get U100 needles so you can shoot tiny doses.) Then watch the numbers and when he is above 200 again, shoot. The problem with this is that you are almost always shooting off schedule and usually later than +12. (like last night it might have been +18 or something.). To see how others have done it, look at the remission thread above. Catannc's ss is a good example.

It plays havoc with your life, but it is the best way to keep the pancreas working and him in lower numbers overall. It usually is a short path to remission. The way we are trying to deal with it now - skipping and then the pancreas sleeps and he gets into high numbers is not working well.

Is there any way to manage such a schedule, even for a week or so?

In my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools, the 5 Ps - purring, playing, preening/grooming, pooping, and peeing are discussed - along with some other assessments of how the cat is doing. You might find them useful adjuncts.
