I woke up and thought he was either dead or hypo, took his BG and it was "HI". Headed to the vet and turns out he is in critical condition with shock, low blood pressure, low temp, low heart rate and DKA. They have tried the first two options to get his blood pressure up, but they didn't work, now they are trying dopamine I believe.

I'm so worried I'm going to have to put him to sleep. Anyone have any experience with this? When does thinking about euthanasia come into play?

I also got the impression they thought it was my fault he hasn't been regulated due to the sliding scale, but I see them used a lot on here. Now I'm getting worried I may have killed my own cat.

Oh, sweetie! You were doing the best you could for Socks. Please, don't blame yourself for anything that happened.

And give that insensitive vet a swift kick in the a@@ for us! Shame on him.

DKA can come on so suddenly. Not eating enough, not enough insulin, infection of some kind. That infection is usually hidden so you never saw this coming. Didn't you just have Socks into the vet on 6/24? Looks like the vet messed up too.

We will be praying for you and Socks. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Yeah he was just in on Monday, he was looking good, and his numbers were looking good, so based on that and what I told her, she decided not to do blood work. In hindsight, maybe I should have pushed it, but he probably didn't even start developing ketones until Monday night/Tuesday morning or later.

They are on the fourth option to bring his blood pressure up and his blood pressure has actually gone down. This just really sucks.

Poor Socks. I am keeping my fingers and my babies paws crossed for you... let us know how he gets on and then maybe we can come up with a better strategy for managing him..
