I don't know if I should shoot or how much. If he goes from 500 to 100, wouldn't that mean giving him the same amount if he is 275 could possible send him into hypo? Maybe I should just give .5, or wait another hour or so?

From yesterday's thread, I looked at the pdf about the test strips, and it seemed that there shouldn't be much variance from only being left open for 3-4 hours.

I glanced at Catannc's ss and think I kind of get the idea. Basically, I would have to test him frequently and as soon as he starts going 200 and above, give him a small dose until he starts to go back up to 200 and above again and then another small dose? So the cycles could be anywhere from a few hours to +20 or more?

His 5 P's seem to be regular, I doubt I would be able to monitor his water since I use a fountain, and the food may be difficult because the other cat decides that the food in his bowl is tastier than hers, even though it is the same. I do have a baby scale, but I should probably write down the numbers, I just kind of go by the last recorded number on the scale.

Yes, you'd lower the dose if you were shooting a 200 vs a 500. You could be cautious and shoot .25 units (for example) into a 275. You'd want to be able to watch him and test to see that he didn't go low. Once you see how he does, you can rise or lower as you need to.

No, you wouldn't be shooting more often than 12 hours. But yes, the cycles could last more than 12 and yes, possibly up to 20 or more. Like last night. If there was a way to find out when he started up after the 107, you could have shot when he got over 200, before he shot up into the reds.

It's trying to catch him when it's safe to shoot and before he starts to jump up.

As far as tonight, can you shoot less than .5? (Are you using U40s - could you eyeball a .25?). And then be sure to check his number in a couple hours. We don't know what he will do at 275. He hasn't been there often.

I still use a u40 syringe as well, I guestimated a .25 is about the width of the little black mushroom cap on the plunger (hope that was descriptive enough.) I don't think you have to worry too much about pinpoint accuracy, but you can definitely get in the ballpark.
