Good Morning All!
I'm happy to report that I've been able to successfully transition both Flash and Soleil to wet food full-time. While Soleil isn't a fan of the wet food Flash eats (Sheba), she's really latched on to the Freshpet Select food. I've also started them on a twice a day feeding schedule. Flash could afford to lose a little weight since we're all on a low-carb diet in solidarity with Soleil. Neither of them were fans at first, and it was difficult to ignore the cries because they had no open access to food, but I think they've come to terms with it.
Soleil's urine pods that solidify in the litter box have gotten significantly smaller. She's also getting back into the swing of doing more of her daily cat activities (patrolling the house to protect us from the outside cats, performing butt wiggles to pounce on her brother, sleeping on the back of the couch, etc.). I'm hoping that soon I can take up the plastic in her room so we can go back to our normal living arrangements. I'm still leery of letting her roam the house without me present because of her vomiting spells, but I'm hopeful that soon it will be an occasional instance vs the every couple of days it was happening before she was diagnosed.
Her numbers have also been amazing without insulin. Since the evening of 3/26, her numbers have been low enough to not warrant an injection. As of 4/2 she's started the OTJ Trial. Admittedly when her numbers were dropping without the insulin, I was concerned that it would make her sick (per human diabetics I know, the numbers she's been showing is very low for a human) so one Sunday evening I was giving her a couple of greenies and a couple of hard food kernels only to learn that naturally being in these low numbers just means her pancreas is starting to work correctly again. After a day or two of letting those carbs flush out, it was determined that she can start the trial to be considered in remission.
It's been quite the ride, but I've learned a lot from this experience and the three of us will be healthier for it.
