Hello all... BooBoo seems to be doing great this morning/afternoon. Not too high at her amps # and doing great at +4 with 143. On the 1U of Humulin. On all wet low carb diet. Seems to be working out great and I wanna thank you all again for helping me through all this...

Fantastic! Be sure you take some credit for researching, listening and staying at it even when it was hard. :RAHCAT
Well I'm waiting on getting that Lantus too, so I'm sure there will prob be a whole nother set of issues coming!!! :o

Stephanie, once you have it all down pat and the dose given to BooBoo was 10 units of N b.i.d., maybe you could pay the vet a visit and show him the ss and tell him how good BooBoo is doing? Still blows my mind, the dose she was on.

You know, I think the doctor and the vet tech got their wires crossed because last I saw him he said, "is she still on 1 unit?" I might have told him about the mishap, or the tech who told me "just 1" was referring to a 1 mark on a 100cc syringe that has only the 1,2,3, etc. numbers on it as opposed to 10, 20, 30... But 1 of those is NOT the same as 1unit for sure!

Anyway BooBoo seems to be doing so great. Her PM # was only 296 and that's basically with no insulin in her system at +12!!! Amazing! Still on Humulin, but doing so well! Almost afraid to change anything... She's on the all wet food diet still and tonight, I gave her a very small amount (just a treat size) piece of baked chicken breast as a treat and I hope that was ok. My Hubby said it was fine because it has like no carbs... Was that ok?, and if so when we have chicken again can I do that again? She absolutely loved it!

of course. a lot give boiled/ baked chicken as their treats for tests
PS. read the stickies on lantus on how to handle it.
a few off the top of my head
.... keep refrigerated
....do not roll shake or anything like that
....do not shoot insulin back into cartridge. this insulin reacts from the plastic of the syringes
....do not put air into cartridge. the red rubber stopper in upper part of vial moves down as insulin is removed and keeps it pressurized
.... use your regular insulin to draw out insulin from bottom of cartridge

that is all I can remember
hope this helps

I would take the original syringes in to your vet and show the vet where the tech said the "one" was
that was really "ten" units.

Might provoke some in-house training for the vet-tech who made this near-fatal mistake in
instructing you.

Save another kitty !!!!

Something else to try with BooBoo the next time you have chicken is to see if she will eat it raw. When we have chicken here I will slice up a little of it raw and feed it to my gang they absolutely love it. In fact I now have to cut up their's so I can have some peace while trying to cook the rest for us...lol.

But if she will eat it raw then there is a good chance if you ever wanted to that she would except a completely raw diet. Which would be even better for her than even a canned diet. Its more work to make your kitty food at home. (Haven't tried it yet here, but would love to) but I would think that knowing exactly what is going into my kitties would make the work involved worth it. Only reason we haven't tried here is because our grinder just isn't going to handle it for 10 cats..lol.

I am confused on this last line here...
