So Confused on Glucometer Readings and Optimal Levels

I just came back from the vet on our first info session where we got Caninsulin and some U-40 syringes. The vet gave me the hard sell on the pet glucometer, but I already had a One Touch Verio so I didn't bite. But I'm now seriously confused on the numbers. She gave me a sheet that says normal range is 3.9-8.3 MMOL/L. Lil was 22.9 when tested at the vet, so clearly off the charts. But how does this match the instructions on the main page of this site that the goal is to stay between 100-200? And how do I account for the 30% difference she said there is with a human glucometer? And how do I record all of this in the spreadsheet? Ugh - math was never my strong suit!

Ok I think I figured out the spreadsheet part - I found the world tab and realized it's a metric to imperial thing. But can anyone give some guidance on the high and low numbers in metric? What is the lowest reading before I made the decision not to shoot? My glucometer let's me set the high and low ranges for normal - should I account for a 30% difference in the numbers?

With the new diet that has no dry food or Temptations, I'm worried her numbers will be all over the place and need to get this right!

I did. Maybe I'll post a question on the tech forum because it looked like I was doing it as instructed

Make sure you are logged in to Google Drive, then open the spreadsheet.
Click on File, Publish
also do
File, Share or click on the share icon in the upper right. That should give you the view-only link to put in your signature.

Ok - think I got it. Would you retry please? It was the share button - even though I'd published to the web, it was only accessible by people in my group.

I can see it now. Nice! There is another one, not sure why yours doesn't also have the US conversion chart. It's nice for folks here - a lot of our American cousins - to be able to see the numbers in their own language, so to speak.

Also, interesting that she dropped so much from the initial vet reading to today at pre-shot. Vet visits can cause some stress which will spike BG numbers but wow. Some folks would just love a reading like you had today. Take another, if you can, at +3 or +4 if you can, just to make sure the insulin isn't making her drop too low. Just my 2 cents!

Thanks! We will test again tonight. The whole thing was pretty traumatic for both us and Lil, but we got the BG and got the insulin in her, so feel like we've accomplished something. I sure hope that this change in numbers means she was either high from vet stress or removing the dry food and Temptations is going to make a difference.

Char, good for you. My first few days, ack! I was a bit of a wreck and wondered how I would manage it all. You have come to the best place for support and help -- and you are doing a great job!

PS I gave Genghis some Temptations when her BG # was really low and it spiked up her BG like no tomorrow. She misses her treats and I'm sure Lily does, too, but they sure are high in carbs!

To help with the dehydration, add a tablespoon of water to the canned food at mealtimes.

See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for additional assessments you can make to evaluate your cat.

Thanks for both suggestions on the treats and water. We'll try it! I'm literally just sitting here amazed we got the pokes done and no one passed out from the blood (me) or ran away from home yet (me or Lil)
