Been awhile since I've been on here. Snickers is doing as good as expected still getting 6 units of Lantis daily. She's 13 now and slowing down but all in all not too bad. I have a question though. The skin on her back is very dry and flaking badly and it is driving her bonkers. The vet said oh she's just big and can't reach back to lick herself anymore. She does try to though but you can hardly pet her it's so touchy. Anybody got any ideas on how to soothe her back? She hates baths with a passion so that won't work. I'm open for suggestions. TIA!

There are differing opinions on coconut oil for cats, so do your own research, but Whispy got a little bit of coconut oil for a few days to help clear a massive blockage of hair in his GI tract, but taking it internally also did WONDERS for his flaky skin (and it cleared the blockage...Yay!).

Since then, I have also just rubbed the coconut oil on the outside of his skin and that helps too. He's a little..."portly", shall we say...so he can't reach back there very well either so I don't worry about him continuing to consume coconut oil. I do wonder if something else like a fish oil or vitamin E oil would be ok as well, but I don't have any first-hand experience.
