A little good news regarding Sally (dog) this morning....she ATE! A little bad new regarding Kitty this morning....she ALSO ate Sally's high carb food!

Due to the pancreatitis Sally is experiencing, the vet has her on a higher carb food (regardless of the diabetes) until the pancreatic inflamation subsides. Yesterday, for the first time, Sally started eating small amounts of food at 4 hour intervals. For the first time since her crash, 10 days ago, she is starting to "want" to eat! Her jaundice also appears to be subsiding, hopefully the bloodwork tomorrow will confirm that the liver values are improvng, and we will not have any additional setbacks. She goes back to the vet school tomorrow for additonal test....Debit or Credit!!!

Knowing very little about canine diabetes or Humulin N, it is hard for me to guage what the BG numbers are actually showing. But, I think, I have reason for some optimism that the diabetes might be transient. Please, Tell me what you think...... yesterday her amps was 130, and I elected to give no insulin. Last night, her pmps was 179 (24 hours without insulin), and I shot 3 units. This morning her amps was 180 and I shot 3 units. The vet had instructed me to give 7 units bid, but I know that is too much. Supposedly, the vet says that, 7 units is a very small amount of insulin for a dog and she would expect Sally to need in the range of 10 to 15 units bid. So, if that is true......I am hoping that her BG will continue to go down as the pancreatitis clears and maybe the need for insulin will cease. I read on some canine sites, that a bg below 200 is the acceptible target for a dog receiving insulin. So, regardless, I will continue to do the best I can and hope the BG stays in a "safe" range for Sally---whether the need for insulin is short term or life- long.

Now, to Cool Kitty, dosed tid. Her amps was 225...I shot 3.2 units! All seemed well, until I saw her sneaking around the kitchen cabinet....EATING Sally's high carb food! She only got a few licks in before I "gently pushed her away" Hopefully, the "crack" will not raise her numbers today....time will tell.

Once again, Thanks for your interest in Sally and for letting me "talk" about her here. I am totally exhausted from caring for her, but the slight improvements I am seeing are very rewarding!

Wishing everyone a Great Day......

So glad sally is doing better. I have a FD kitty and a senior doggie that has lots of issues because of being older. I love them both so much and just a part of the family. I've been praying for sally that she will get better. No fun having two sick animals in the house.

Keep us updated.

Oh what good news! It's fantastic Sally is eating! dancing_cat (The dancing cat will have to suffice - insert dancing dog as appropriate :-D )

And what a sneaky lil devil for Kitty! Hope she didn't get much.

Sneaky Kitty is doing great! They always seem to throw some naughty stuff into the mix to keep you on your toes cat(2)_steam
Glad to see her numbers are so good.

And glad Sally ate for you. It’s so distressing when they don’t, and more so for a diabetic.
You are truly amazing keeping all this info straight, two diff animals, insulins, rules, etc. You must be in logistics! Go Kim!!! :thumbup
