My little girl is working it well on 30u currently- unless I skip a shot  - I'm hoping it is a skipped shot and not the pen- I go through them fast enough to not even have to worry about a fridge life  but they have their place under the meat drawer.

She spent 3 whole days in the blues with the lowest being a 112 at +4 and 117 at +9 so she might have even dipped lower and her rebound to that was 190 - still a blue- with no bouncing that I could tell :-D . She actually only dropped 50 pts since the PS on that day so I wonder if keeping her at 30u would be safe for a while and seeing what her body does.

Mom tests/shoots for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays while I am late at school- 15 minutes early verses 4 hours late... I think early is the best ;-) . Now I won't have to worry so much about food and insulin.

She's slowed down to 9-11 oz/day and I switched to Wal-Marts special kitty. Sneakers was starting to not eat the FF unless heavily dosed with parm so a change of venue appeared to be in order. It can take her 2 days to finish a 5.5oz can with 6oz of chicken during the day. And I only dish out 1oz or SMALLER at a time as she doesn't scarf the whole thing anymore.

Getting with the vet to find out about pain relief meds for her- with her tumor probably dealing with headaches and is why she isn't back to her old self of play like I thought she would be once regulated. And I bought a chill mat for her to lay on. Just need to set it up and she just might be in kitty heaven :-D .

Well, that is her weekly update! I'm keeping an eye on everyone.

Those are great numbers. Wow, 30us! Hard to wrap my head around that amount.

I had not thought about pain being a factor. It makes sense though. Are there other acro parents that have treated for that? Pain meds have there own set of problems, unfortunately. When Jeddie was on bupe he was a little out of it and after he was gone Laura told me that it can cause constipation, which, looking back, might have been happening. Poor guy. No one told me. Aynway, if you go that route ask about side effects so you can address them proactively.

Yes. That is a factor I need to investigate before settling on one.

I'm going to write down the ones he suggests and then search here for the best one. And I thought Bupe was usually for nausea or is that it also takes care of nausea? I do give Sneakers 1/8th tsp every day of Mirilax as she does tend to be constipated. I don't know if it is the mixed diet of raw and canned or what but when I miss a day or two I can really tell by the size (and number) of her poops.

Wanted to put Sneakers on metacam :o I put my foot down and said that the FDA had even said it shouldn't be used for cats...

"You've been researching again, haven't you?" He asked me after that. I said yes and quickly scrolled through the old posts and found bupes full name. He is going to see if he can find some for me and will call me back.

He had mentioned the 'only' alternative he knew of was something called onscore (sounded like) and was for orthopedic pain that you use for 3 days and off for 2 and was costly- 3 pills for $25 but each pill worked 24 hours.

So... looking to get some other info on metacam for him as "everyone" gives metacam for cats.

Okay... new saga of the pain meds...

Their rep says a 2.5 month supply of bupe costs $600. Is this something I can get at a human pharmacy using a cost card?

Thanks.

There are some supply problems with bupe. It is made (was, I should say) by four manufacturers. The brand name one and three generics. One discontinued permanently. The other two have some sort of production hold going, which leaves the name brand one. It is a kep med in treating addictions in humans. Generally, that is the pill form and not the liquid form. What I found very useful about it is that it could be given orally as well as by injection. They wanted Jeddie to get it orally even with his big mouth tumor, but he would just drool it out so I gave it as an injection.

If you are serious about wanting bupe I would contact the compounding pharmacies around the country and see if they can make it.

There are other pain meds. One was compounded tramadol. I think it is liquid given orally. It was what the surgeon suggested for Jeddie saying it was cheaper than bupe. However, it was contraindicated when he was also on prozac so I never pursued it.

You might ask on Health about types and availability of pain meds for cats.

Re: Sneakers 8-27- rolling in the green!

Thanks Sheila

I asked also on the acro FB as well as in health and they suggested a few things as well. Tramadol, unfortunately, cannot be shipped to AR from petmeds.com as it is one of 7 states that consider it a controlled narcotic. I've got a few other names to look up and see what I can find.

Sneakers got a green last night  :-D . Actually- more like this morning. She was 95 at +12 and was going down over a 20 minute period. I finally gave her something to eat and shot only 20u instead of 30u. I couldn't afford to miss a complete shot as it would take her up high but was comfortable with a reduced one. At least I don't give R  .

I would love to know how she did during the day - not too high at all for the evening PS after a 33% reduction. Looks like that worked pretty well.

Yeah, it seems like all these pain meds are controlled substances. It just makes it a huge pain to obtain for our kitties.

I remember what you wrote about getting stuff for Jeddie sometimes- sounded like beating your head against the wall got better results :? .

Yes, 137 at PMPS :-D . Didn't fill in the rest- and this might be a bounce and it might be from the decrease of the morning and shed emptied/sort of bouncing- spent all evening in low yellows- +3.5 was 202(ish), 220(ish) over night, 250(ish) for AMPS. I forgot to bring my sheet to work with me so all that is memory (not the best sometimes  ) but she didn't get into pink, which is where I thought she was going to be last night.

Heard nothing from the vet, so I will drop by after work today and hand them my research. Maybe I'll open the door to other options for cats and dogs.
